Seriously that guy was one of the coolest people I ever met on a forum and I was just wondering why he got banned and if there is a chance of him being reinstated?

Thanks!

Kowloon was banned because of spamming PM boxes & profile comment boards with his want lists. He was warned a few times not to do this, and people complained about the spam in their PM box. I don't think its a permanant ban. He will probably be re-instated soon.

I was getting his lists in my PM, I didnt complain or anything but I can see how some people would get annoyed.

As Haz suggested, Kowloon was given a one-week ban for repeatedly ignoring requests to stop his spam after we received numerous complaints from fellow members. The ban amounts to having his posting privileges locked.

Believe me, banning is always a last resort. The mods try to be as accommodating and fair as possible when dealing with issues that warrant a ban and it's in no way a reflection on the character of any individuals who are banned.

I'm in the process of drafting a new list of forum rules that will be made available for everyone to read. This list will include ban-worthy offenses and the steps leading up to a ban. This is so that in the future we can hopefully avoid similar situations, at least with regard to our regular members.

Any official word on why 'Daigoro' was banned?

Respectfully, I prefer not to keep publicly discussing why each person was banned, at least not in any detail. It's not because mods have anything to hide. It's just not appropriate. Generally speaking, if anyone was involved with the actions that led to a ban they will know why the person was banned and it's not really anyone else's concern. Again, I want to reiterate that a ban is not a reflection on the character of the person who was banned. It means somewhere along the way there was an irreconcilable difference between the mods and/or select members of the community and the person involved that could not be solved through communication alone.

In the case of Daigoro, he did not break any specific rules but there are extenuating circumstances that I'd rather not go into that justified the ban. His ban is also temporary and he'll be able to post again soon.

What the hell is the big deal with posting your want list? People can always delete it if they are not interested. kowloon is somebody who just likes to trade and sell. SO WHAT? There shouldn't be anything wrong with that. There is nothing disruptive going on here. kowloon obviously doesn't know what spamming is or I am sure he would stop. He has said in the past how rare it is to find Bruce Lee fans on these types of boards. I'm inclined to think he just wants to share his GREAT Bruce Lee DVD collection with others. It really is sad because I feel like kowloon is being bullied and singled out because English is not his first language. He doesn't mean any harm and certainly doesn't understand why he was banned! "Respectfully", I think Mark needs to be more specific when addressing this issue! I'm glad you are drafting a new set of rules because this banning crap on a Kung Fu message board is pretty ridiculous! I guess the reason I am so upset is because I don't like making friends with people across the globe and then having them banned out of the blue for stupid stuff. I look forward to coming here to have my almost daily Bruce Lee chat discussions with kowloon only to be robbed because a few assholes complained about a "want list"! unbelievable!

That's why there is a dedicated section in the forum for trades/wants.

Yeah well in kowloon's case he is simply enthusiastic about Bruce Lee and expresses himself a little differently. Banning somebody who is deliberately causing problems is one thing, but banning somebody who clearly doesn't understand what he did wrong is cruel.:(

I would agree on that however, if one has repeatedly been warned about something and persists/disregard what is requested, the admin/moderators are within their right to take such action. I think that's beyond fairness.

Sometimes people are a bit over zealous. I know there are other options when communicating, however, it's best to always show some respect, especially if you seek it in return.

Unfortunately - on this and quite a few other boards that I have seen - even being as straightforward as humanly possible doesn't get through. So you get the ban stick out.

If you want to be a part of any community, it behooves you to pay attention.

I'm closing this thread. Raul's initial post has been answered and any further discussion on forum rules and specific actions taken needs to be directed to me or another mod and not the forum community at large. I'm not going to debate forum policy publicly but I will listen to suggestions and complaints. Raul, I'm sending you a response by PM.
