Just saw this on DDDhouse that it's getting a new DVD release. Is the movie any good!? I have a very VERY vague idea that I might have already seen it a long long time ago, but I'm far from sure.

Been a while since I watched it. But if i remember right it was just decent, nothing too great. It had 2 standout fight sequences. The finale between Doonie and Yu Rong Guong was one of them. I think the plotline is that Donnie is a doctor who moves into an area controlled by an axe gang headed by YRG. Donnie falls in love with YRG sister and blah blah blah..... pretty low budget affair.

The fight scenes are high quality, I just love it.
If people say that it is watered down YWP, don't listen to them.
There are 2 fights between Donnie and Yu Rong Guang, this makes it worth buying as they're great modern day fight scenes.
The movie in itself is good too!

I agree Graeme. I liked the dark story and the fights. But it's definitely low budget.

yeah all of donnie directed films are pretty low budget. but the stories are all dark; and pretty damn good.

It was just so so to me, but it's ok
It was alright, with the standard Cantonese drama and pop soundtrack, the end fight scene was just getting good with yen vs Yu Rong Guang but I remember it ending to quick after he pulls out the axe.

It's crap. Looks like they had 4 days to shoot the movie with a day and a half of that going to the action. There were flashes, and i mean flashes of interesting bits action wise. The end had super obvious doubling of Yu Rong Guang and bad repeated choreography. Watch it on youtube and save the money. Def. not something to own.

The recent DVD release has been said to be crap by a poster at another forum.

I saw or read an interview where Donnie explained that because of scheduling problems Yu couldn't be there for most of the climactic fight. Shame.
I thought this was an okay film. Like a 6 out of 10.

I found it difficult to get through. I had to watch it over a few days because it was so dull.

it's the least impressive directorial outing (until I see Black Rose 04, heard so much awful stuff about it) from him so far to me. all the ups (like cinematography, setting/scenery/locations, music) weren't enough to hold my interest when everything else was handled so low.
