After watching one of these, has anybody besides myself ever try to find the original movie that was cut and spliced in with the "new" ninja footage?
I am particularly interested in finding the original film that was spliced into NINJA PHANTOM HEROES USA (1987). It starred Callan Leung and Johnny Wang Lung Wei and a number of familiar faces from Hong Kong films in the 70's and 80's. Particular low budget gangster stuff 80's style but the action was pretty decent with many brutal fights and gunplay.
Anybody have any ideas about this one?

Some of the movies might be unfinished or unreleased ones that IFD/Filmark picked up from random countries. I do know Thundering Ninja came from the 1977 Jimmy Wang Yu movie The Criminals.

The only movie I could find that features both actors you mention is one called STRUGGLE FOR LEADER (1983). You might want to do a search on that. If it's not then the source film was either unreleased or incomplete. Sometimes footage is taken from more than one film and pasted together.

hey,
man from holland differs between IFD and OS versions but is not a cut & paste flick.

Hey Markgway! I found the listing for STRUGGLE FOR LEADER on hkmdb.com and judging from the cast list, THIS is the movie! Thanks so much. Now begin's the really hard part, finding this movie on VHS or DVD, dubbed or subbed...

I know that some of the Filmark titles sometimes utilize one or more of the original actors in the new footage. I think that's the case in NINJA, THE VIOLENT SORCERER and the Alexander Lou film, NINJA - THE BATTALION...

hey,
don't remember Alexander Lou in the old footage of Battalion but I remember the Filmark footage being of quite good quality, productionwise for them. :)

He wasn't in the old footage. That was NINJA CONDORS, which I believe wasn't a Filmark cut and paste title; they just released it. I know another version was released on VHS without any mention of Filmark in the credits - Ocean Shores, maybe? One of villains in BATTALION, who I think had a moustache in the original film I'm pretty sure appears clean shaven in the new footage...Been awhile since I've seen it tho... Both Lou Filmark titles are awesome in their own way...
Unlike IFD, who used Richard Harrison, did Filmark ever use a "name" actor in the new footage of these films?

I guess Mike Abbott, Stuart Smith or Louis Roth? ;) They're stars in my world. :)

They're certainly stellar in my world as well, but I was thinking more along the lines of a lead actor who was known outside of the IFD/Filmark films...

Does Philip Ko Fei count???
Yes - Thanks! In TOUGH NINJA, THE SHADOW WARRIOR, he's in both the old and new footage as the same character...

Cassanova Wong shot a fight scene that was spliced into Ninja Holacaust. He looks a little heavier. You can definitely see a difference. And Phillip Ko shows up as a ninja in Ninja Terminator. He's the guy who blows hmself up after being defeated in a fight at the end of the movie. But it looks like stock footage when he calls Richard Harison's Garfield phone.

I don't believe NINJA HOLOCAUST was an IFD or Filmark title, but I do remember seeing Casanova Wong vs. Bronzemen footage from Asso Asia's RIVALS OF THE SILVER FOX in the opening titles of IFD's GOLDEN DESTROYERS, which had no Ninja...

You are probably right, but it felt like a Godfrey Ho type splice job with that added Cassanova footage, and the opening credits which has a white guy fighting ninjas.

hey,
ah, the garfield phone footage. Something that could be used in order to get a special appearance by Richard in certain movies. :)

ZOMBIE VS. NINJA was from a Korean movie called ZOMBIE RIVALS with Elton Chong.
On the Imperial VHS that was re-released (the cassette was labeled ZOMBIE NINJA on a plain white video face label) there's an IFD trailer which is titled ZOMBIE RIVAL - THE SUPER NINJA MASTER, tho the voice over just calls it ZOMBIE RIVAL - THE SUPER MASTER. I'm pretty certain that whoever duplicated the VHS unknowingly included the trailer - just like Digiview did with their IFD "anime" DVD releases...
IIRC on the U.K. Vengeance video DVD there's the same trailer with a different title - ZODIAC AMERICA -THE SUPER MASTER and the V.O. is changed to reflect that...
BTW, anyone have any info on Pierre Kirby?
