Hi Guys and Gals. Apparently there are a lot of creative forum members out there, drawing, painting, sculpting, et. So far, I've only seen a few post pics of their stuff- Tosh, Daigoro and Joe Pineapples (and maybe a few others)- and all of these guys have vastly different styles, and do fascinating work. I really enjoy seeing people's artwork, so I thought I would start a thread dedicated to just that.
Let's see only original work by members- not official posters or lobby cards- on this thread okay? Martial arts and Asian themed pieces would be great, but I'm personally open to see whatever work forum artists are willing to share! :D
So please show us your art!
Very cool idea KFBob, we should get a sticky on this, for those of you with kids have them do some Asian inspired art and post those to, nothings better than seeing kids art.
I'd like to note that the art Joe Pinnaples posted is by a famous artist named Yue Minjun, I believe he is from China.
The pig is something I started drawing after getting back from Asia and was inspired by the cartoon animals on billboards over there.

I dabbled with drawing in my high school "daze" and mid 80s. Mainly inspired by the characters of Marvel.
My problem was that I could never create anything from scratch as I needed source material to work from.
This piece was originally featured in an Overstreet Price Guide which I then added my own touches to....
http://www.teako170.com/art1.jpg
Loved drawing planets - though that sky took forever (dotdotdotdotdot)
This 2nd piece was something I saw in a MAM issue.
http://www.teako170.com/art2.jpg
(Bob, one of the issues I sent you has this image though its only 2"X2").
And that's what I did. I took a small image and then blew it up adding my own touch....
A few Silver Surfer pics. Again, not original though don't recall the source material....

I never considered myself a good "artist" though I fancied myself a decent plagiarizer... :p

Hey Tosh, I'm trying to keep focused on the positive and not "go dark", you know? As a friend, you're always welcome to bust my chops. :D But I've already seen my stuff! A few people that complimented my art said "I'm also an artist" so I thought it would be cool to see other people's work. I'll add stuff ocassionally to keep the thread alive though.
Nice sketches! ;)

I remember the days of doing that "dot" thing! :p A girlfriend who was an artist introduced me to masking tape and sponges which takes a 1/6 of the time.
I recognized the drawing from the magazine right away. I've been reading those all week- thanks!
Silver Surfer! You've got good taste and some penciling skills T. ;)
Hey... you. Yeah, YOU. The person reading this right now... I know you've got something you want to share, right? :nerd:

KLSADAKO- my hats off to you. Absolutely beautiful work. You've created some gorgeous women in your pieces. The realistic details are stunning to the point that the first two could be mistaken for hi-end photographs. Are you creating these from your imagination, recreating photos, or working with live models? Also, what paper/canvas and medium are you working with? I'd guess they're pencil and charcoal.

I'm a total Tolkien fanatic - and my fave JRRT book is definitely Silmarillion.
So... This is a picture of Maglor (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/mystuff/maglor.jpg) - the second eldest son of Fëanor... (Fëanorians rule.)
Bor with sons (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/mystuff/Bor_with_his_sons.jpg) (only Silmarillion/HoME geeks are likely to know them)...
A rather inept attempt at doing something with watercolor.
Zhen Zhibing and Zhao Zhijing (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/Zhenzhao.jpg)...
I'm not good with brushes.
Posting photo-referenced fan art after KLSADAKO's wonderful pics is a tad foolish, but what the hell...;-)
Cesare's poison of choice...;-) (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/mystuff/snake.jpg)
Cheng Haofeng as Li Yan (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/mystuff/Bi_Xue_Jian_Li_Yan.jpg)
Guys don't look much like themselves, but it was fun drawing those...

I know most artists are their own worst critics, but dude! your work is sweet! :D And I thought you did terrific liknesses of the actors. Your Wei Pai is a much better likness than mine. And I think your brush work is fine. It's obvious that you put more work into the faces than the clothes (on the watercolor), but that is still a very nice painting. If I may... You need to fall in love with your subjects to do them justice, and I often fall into a trap that you appear to be in too. I put my all into the faces and bodies, and sort of just slug on through the clothing, and background parts. It's important to try to "love" these parts of a piece too. To try to make the art's viewer think the "mask" is shining, or "feel" the roughness of a worn leather belt. So if you can concentrate on finding the essence of the yellow robes instead of feeling like "I have to do this part now..." then your pieces will have more power.
Yes, I offered unsolicitated advice- hope you're not offended- but don't get the wrong idea. I think your work is really wonderful. I was just responding to your self-critique. Thank you so much for sharing your work, and I hope you post more.

I used to love to draw from live models. The trick is to not let it distract you, but allow alow the experience to entice you. Often these drawing sessions would end with a passionate romantic interlude- the creation of the piece itself, simply serving as extended foreplay. Ah... the days of youth.
Love the new posts! This thread is starting to rock now! :D

Offended? Not in the least! On the contrary. I am more than grateful for any pointers you can give...:-)
And you are so right about being 'more in love' with certain parts of the picture...;-) That indeed is a trap I very often find myself in.
Thanks for your kind words...:-)

Something from me... I'm reading Lu Xiao Feng now, so I tried to do a pic of Xi Men Chui Xue...
He probably looks more melancholic than he should. :-/ (XMCX is not exactly supposed to a sentimental guy.)

I'm so glad this thread is blooming. I hope more members will post. Don't be shy.
That Sammo drawing would look great framed on the wall, maybe with bamboo, there's a guy on an art forum I go to that tells how to sell prints, he goes into it very detailed, he makes a living selling his Pen and Inks on American landmarks, I'll post a link if anyone is interested.

I have the JtHM comics but been drawing these stupid little cartoons before I read them, when I have dialog I just go with it and sketch it as it will disappear out of my mind quick (otherwise the ADD kicks in), I'd say I'm better at sculpting than drawing:angel: the old MAD mags were a huge influence on me as a kid.

Kung Fu Bob: Thanks! Yeah I had to include him after seeing Operation Scorpio! And I needed somebody posing underneath and he was the right choice with that style! Have you done any drawings yourself? Would like to see them if you have done any.

Kung Fu Bob: Have you done any drawings yourself? Would like to see them if you have done any.
I have put pencil to paper on occasion. XD
1. ENTER THE PLATYPUS -When I used to make my old girlfriend's daughter laugh, she used to say "You silly platypus!" I think she just thought it was funny word/animal. One day at work I plundered a fellow employees desk pad to amuse myself.
2. ARTIFAX Anniversary artwork- I was hired to create a piece celebrating a Philly head shop's anniversary. Here are two of the designs I created. They chose the yellow one (though the owner asked me to re-do it in greyish blue and dirt brown, which I think ruined it) and it was made into T-shirts.
3. THE VAMPIRE SLAYERS FIELD GUIDE TO THE UNDEAD- This is a book about the huge variety of vampire legends from all the different countries of the world. I created many pieces in a variety of mediums for the book, including these four.
Kung Fu Bob: Wow! They are all very impressive artwork! Very creative, nicely detailed and the colors look great! I really like the female vampire standing at the doorway. The contrast from light to dark is very well done!

MLee: Hi! Cool to see you posting here...;)
Great stuff. I've always liked your SB fanart.
KUNG FU BOB: Wonderful pics. I guess my fave would be the very last one. Sort of reminds me of Conrad Veidt in The Man Who Laughs...
Some "Qin fanart" (as I call it)...
指鹿為馬。(To point at a deer and call it a horse.)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/zhao3-1.jpg
"Zhao Gao, one of the chief ministers of the second Qin emperor, suspected some of the ministers of being disloyal to him. He had a servant bring a deer into the hall and called all the ministers together. Pointing to the deer he said, 'Look at this fine horse I have brought for His Majesty the Emperor. I want to know what each of you thinks of it.' One by one the ministers spoke. Most of them praised the 'horse', saying what a splendid animal it was and how clever Zhao Gao had been to find it. A few, though, refused to call it a horse, and one even said, 'Horse? What horse? I see only a deer!'
After they had all finished speaking, Zhao Gao gave a signal to his soldiers, who grabbed all those who had not said that the deer was a horse. He had them executed, hoping in this way to terrify everyone into silence."
Meng Tian & Fu-su
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Maddiel/fusu-1.jpg
It is a long story but to cut it short: After Qin Shihuang's sudden death at Shaqiu, eunuch Zhao Gao devised a scheme to get rid of the crown prince and general Meng Tian and sent them a false imperial decree ordering them both to commit suicide.
('...As a son Fu Su has been unfilial, and herewith is presented with a sword with which he may cut short
his existence. The commandant of the army, [Meng] Tian . . . has been lacking in rectitude. . . . As a subject
he has not been loyal, and so it is hereby granted to him to die.')
Fu-su was going to do as he was ordered, but Meng Tian smelled something fishy and tried his best to talk prince out of it:
'When His Majesty lived outside the capital and had not yet
established a crown prince, he employed me to command a
host of three hundred thousand to protect the frontier, and
you, his son, to be overseer. This is a way to responsibility in
the empire, and yet now, upon the coming of a single emissary,
you are about to kill yourself. How do you know that this is
not a trick? I beg of you to send back a request for confirmation
of this letter. If, after sending back the request, you should
then die, it would not be too late. The emissary will hasten the
message.'
...but - for whatever reason - Fu-su didn't listen to Meng Tian. He said something to the effect of "if daddy wants me dead who am I to argue" and obediently offed himself.
Meng Tian was a tad more difficult to handle, but he didn't live much longer than Fu-su.
(Lots of mistakes in that pic, but any further attempts at correcting them would probably ruin the paper...;-))
Cesare: Hi to you! I hope you are doing well and thanks! I really like the way you handle colors! The smokey watercolor effect works really well!

Thank you MLee! A lot of my martial arts related stuff was given away to students when I was at the peak of my training, but I do have other stuff I'll post soon. In the meantime, here's a link to see my latest MA related art elsewhere on the site: http://www.kungfucinema.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7550
Also, I wanted to say- I really liked the last two pieces you posted. I do recognize nearly everyone, and (I think) I can correctly identify which films about half of the images specifically come from. But I'll do it next time. I'm getting ready to crash. It's half past midnight and I have work and dental surgery awaiting this, no doubt, unforgettable Monday! :l
KUNG FU BOB: Wonderful pics. I guess my fave would be the very last one. Sort of reminds me of Conrad Veidt in The Man Who Laughs...
Some "Qin fanart" (as I call it)...
Thank you Cesare. ;) That last one was partially inspired by both your guess, and the titular character in the film MR. SARDONICUS. It's of a Croatian vampire that stumbles the dark roads at night as though it's a grinning, happy, non-threatening drunkard. By the time the victim gets a good look at what's coming... it's too late! I used my friend "Little Mike"- who's not a small statured guy, but younger than "Big Mike" in the same class XD- as my model for this pic, as he is always joking and has a Jack Nicholsonesque "shit eating grin" that I could riff off of.
Love the latest pieces you posted, and agree with MLee about your "smoky colors". Beautiful work. I'm definitely a fan of your Qin fanart! More please. :D
How about some more, new posters adding their work too?
Kung Fu Bob: Wow! These Venoms drawings are very impressive! You've really captured the style and personality of each member!
I look forward to your other stuff!

KLSADAKO- Gorgeous work!!!! Your art is always a thrill to look at. It's technically superb, and always has a liveliness, or warmth that is sometimes lacking in black and white portraits. Bravo!
I'm curious, can you give me an idea of how long it takes you to complete a drawing? Maybe you can specify one of the above pieces and give an estimate?
Thanks for sharing your art with us.

Maybe it is just my computer or connection, but I get an error every time I have tried these links.:khi6c:

They do look like old woodblocks. They have such an old world charm, something that as a child I am sure I would have cherished, stories of Ninja and Samurai Toads, and as an adult, would collect and pass on to the next generation. They are timeless wonderful creatures... hell, they are just damn cute, okay!

Well, after "popular demand" on the forums (two people ), I thought I'd bring over some of my photoshop work based around photos I shot a couple of years back:

http://modelmayhm-4.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/091119/17/4b05f6989b883.jpg
The original raw photos were shot summer 2007, but I decided to give "serious photoshop" a try a week ago, and these were the results! I've used photoshop for a while, but never got this serious with it. In other words, never spent a day working on just one picture  I hope to have more soon!
Another older quirky one I just found:tongue: It has a story...
The mullet has been an inside joke for a buddy and mine for years, especially since he had one when I met him years ago, we went to the farmers market to pick up some seafood, and they had, mullet! Childish humor ensued but I couldn't let it go, I got home and drew "The Mullet". I converted the fish drawing to vector in illustrator and added the backround, wanted to get some depth to the lettering like an old poster, one for my Bad Art, Worse Humor series.

Making covers for DVDs is fun, isn't it? I used to hand-draw the labels on the VHS tapes in my kung fu collection. Thanks jrcma!
It was a fun way to do a little something artistic, but that wasn't too involved in between big art projects. And since my handwriting is dreadful, it made my movie collection look a lot nicer than just plain old written labels. Here's some more of them. Some are really sloppy and lame, and some I was really happy with.

On a side note I will be going to my folks house and using their scanner so I hope to upload some decent quality artwork to the thread.

Thanks guys! :bigsmile:I was thinking of posting some more of these, but I don't want the thread to become monotonous. The markers color really hops, but there's no erasing- so I screwed up many of these! One of my favorite labels was for LEGENDARY WEAPONS OF KUNG FU. When I was done my wife said "That looks great, except that you spelled the word legendary wrong". Argh! She said it didn't matter as it was only for me anyway, but everytime I looked at it it would annoy me. So I finally re-drew it. :nerd:

Cesare- thanks for the compliment. And I certainly must reciprocate! I love SANDMAN, and that art is beautiful! I got my little sister to read it, and she became a huge fan. She was a teen at the time, and it had a huge influence on her art and style. She would sometimes dress like "Death", and I must say- she was the spitting image! I've asked her to forward me a pic of her done up like that, so if I get it, I'll post it up.
Have any of you read any of Gaiman's novels? Cool stuff too.
I really dig all of your sketches too.

Okay, true story... Well... my buddy (and yours) Gorhama, called to say that none other than Jim Kelly was going to be making a rare guest appearance at a convention in Chicago that he would be attending. THE undisputed "King of Cool Afros"! One of my favorite Blaxploitation stars! Blackbelt fucking Jones! So, in a fifth of the time that it usually takes me to create a similar piece, I rushed my way through a drawing of Big Jim for Gorhama to present to him. The original drawing was done with ink on paper, but- for the first time ever- the entire thing was colored in PhotoShop! I simply didn't have the time to do it the traditional way. I've only recently been given this techno tool, and began playing with it (and thank God for mucho guidance from Tosh!!! He's a lifesaver). I must say, it's very interesting and helpful. However, I had to "paint" this using a standard mouse, as I didn't have one of those fancy "computer art pads/w/ stylus" thingamajigs. That wasn't easy! After 41 years of drawing with pencils, pens, markers and paintbrushes, I wasn't exactly adept at weilding the mouse! LOL Anyway, I decided to go for a look similar to the action movie posters of the '70s, and maybe I even took it... well... a little too far! You guys be the judge.
BTW, Gorhama draws ocassionally, as a hobby (in fact, I have a bitchin' Batman picture that he gave me hanging up in "The Temple") and when I said I was going to do a drawing of Jim Kelly, he decided to try his hand at one too. For a guy that only dabbled in art throughout his life, I think he did a really nice job. I love the style he used, and the exagerrated afros!
The good news is: G presented our drawings to Jim, and said that he was "absolutely thrilled", thanked him at least four times, and his assistant later told him that he'd "never been given anything like that in all the years she's been with him" and that he "raved about it throughout the day". Gorhama said that Jim was as cool as you could imagine (dressed in an orange gi!), still in awesome shape, very friendly, and even (in his "Williams" voice) said "Man, you come straight out of a comic book!". My kung fu brother was kind enough to send me photos of the event, and when I asked if it'd be okay, he was totally fine with me sharing them with all of you. So, see attached photos!
But the best part? Jim asked G for my e-mail address so that he can "thank me personally" (say WHAT?!) and of course he signed prints of our art for both Gorhama and I.
CAN YOU GUYS DIG IT? I knew that you could.

Yeah, if Gorhama wasn't such a cool guy I would have been very jealous. But he totally deserved to have such a great experience. Plus, he graciously took my art there to present to Jim and get one signed for me. We didn't know that "The Hammer" was going to be there or we would have done something for him too! Hopefully when Gorhama gets a chance he can relate a bit more of his experience meeting these gents.

Here's some of my (and one of my mates) stuff. Sadly, although I loved studying art and photography at school, I was too damn lazy to continue....
Bruce vs Adidas wearing crazy zombie vampire badass mo' fo'!!! :xd:
This was done by one of my mates who is truly flippin wicked at art!

Yes! The thread still lives.
I absolutely love the Hopper vs The Little Dragon! What a cool style. Please pass my kudos along to your mate Wiggy.
And multi-media work from you? Nice stuff man. More please! Lets see more ninja doodles.
these are my bro's , they are not as good as urs, but still nice i think ^^
Thanks for posting your brother's art. And forget about that "they are not as good as urs" stuff. This thread is not a critical one. It's more like a digital museum for people to share. I really love seeing all the different styles and subject matter. My favorites are the fourth, fifth, and sixth ones. Really nice work.

Well, I don't have anymore Venoms just yet, but I did recently finish this "Samurai Reincarnation" painting. I started it 2 years ago, and just returned to it last month. It's INSANE how much the style and quality of your artwork can change so fast, isn't it?!

Monday was Columbus Day and on October 12 (today), 1492 they landed in the Bahamas.
I did this when I was 13 in honor of my favorite explorer.
I figured it tied into the day and holiday so I am posting it.

Wolcott- very cool work (as usual!). EXILED is great. I was lucky enough to catch this one on the big screen at the Philly Film Festival. I've watched it several times since too.

I have been an artist most of my life and did all the art classes throughout jr. high and high school but quit when I got to college.
Now I am just a video artist.
Here is a self-portrait I painted in art class when I was 17. It is an abstract but it still looks like me.

This was a project to expand on my vector skills, well I found out you need a good hi-res photo, lesson learned, but I stubbornly trudged through after starting, taking a year break on it, so stick a fork in, it is what it is:angel: Chi Kuan Chun - Shaolin Temple.
