View Full Version : Member privileges restored

For several hours this morning member privileges including posting and PMs were inadvertently disabled while making changes to our member structure in order to increase safeguards to restrict potential spam. Those privileges should be restored now.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Everything should be functioning now. However, if anyone is still having problems with the functionality of their account, please e-mail me at mpollard@kungfucinema.com.

To clarify, the major change is that we now have an Initiate rank, or what the mods like to call the "Grasshopper" rank. New members will have their privileges restricted until they have posted at least 10 replies to other member posts. They will not be able to post images or links or email fellow members. If a new member tries to post text spam they will be banned.

Thanks Mark! Geez, I was wondering what I could have possibly done to get banned?!:)

Okay, I was close to restoring privileges to their defaults but was not quite there. Post moderation has now been disabled.

Cool... Glad I read this. I was confused this morning.

Thats a great add to the site, considering I have only been here for maybe a week and have already gotten some spam PMs.

Anyone receiving spam by PM should report the offender to a mod. Despite our best efforts a few spammers always sneak in. We're making it more difficult for them to operate though.

Yes, anyone sending tinned pork meat should be banned immediately.

Hmm, is there a reason why I can't make changes on my User CP right now? I have 10 posts, and I tried logging out and back in.

all give me this:

littlefuzzy, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

If it might be browser related, I am using Windows 98SE and Netscape 7.2... I know, I know, upgrade! My computer is so old... (HOW OLD IS IT?)

My computer is soo old, it runs on steam power! *rimshot*

Edit again: Also, I just noticed I can't post a new thread yet. Is there a time frame involved, as well as the post count?

You're all set littlefuzzy.

For the record, members are manually granted full membership after a review of their initial posts.

Wow it's going to take me forever to be an established member here looking at the new ranking system. I don't post much but ive been a member for almost 2 years. Someone new who posts a lot could become a senior member before me. WTG.
