They had two, didn't they? One went on fire once?

I went to the addresses in mid-2002, but they seemed to have gone.

Didn't Jonathan Ross help open the second one?

Can't help it but became curious in which VCD that was in purple (1:34). The one you look at first before turning the 2 VCD's before it back. Any ideas?

The days of Laserdiscs - I thought your hand got smaller!

'Rumble' was quite interesting. Got the Speedy VCD and Thakral/Chinastar DVD. Not sure if I've seen the ones in the store before. Think one was the VCD of the Thakral version, but I think the other one was different.

I didn't realise the Eastern Heroes store stocked products not made by them.

Was it 'Shaolin Plot' playing on the screen?

I do remember visiting the Eastern Heroes shop near Chinatown in the West End but at that time I hadn't started collecting kungfu movies.

That was the Shaftsbury Ave shop wasn't it?

The Camden shop was in a basement.

I was in them both about 15 yrs ago when I was a kid.

Everything was way overpriced though.

That's the one Markgway!
I've never been to the one in Camden.
Yeah I do remember prices being quite expensive! Kungfu Monthly mags were £10 each and I recall a Naked Killer printed poster which wasn't very huge was £5 each! I never did buy anything from the shop!

But I am back, and yes - still searching EH VHS Movies! :)

It's because you're an initiate. You have to post a few more times to gain those privileges. I believe it's an anti-spam measure.

Yeah the Camden shop was in a basement, very dark down there. Once me and a mate helped the person who was working in there to bring a load of stock out a van down the stairs. He let us pick one item each from the shop in return. Was well happy with that hehe!

visited the Camden store after it had closed, but a neighbour (?) in another movie type of store had some of their left over stock & managed to get a few magazine back issues at bargain prices :)

note: there's footage of Ross opening one of their stores on the Eastern Heroes Video Magazine

I think I know who you mean, might be John, can't remember; if it's who I'm thinking of, he tried to ban me from their Camden shop once for taking back a faulty Magic Cop. Spent way too much money in that basement. Good times.

These guys love their 'Fu' alright but manners and personality seemed to pass them by. When I was in the shop(s) the atmosphere was miserable and unfriendly. Not at all what I had hoped for.

Never been a fan of the Eastern Heroes brand and their scamming BS, so can't say I care about their store being burned down. Serves them right. Wouldn't surprise me if they did it themselfs for the insurance money.

When I was 15 and just getting in to martial arts movies I took a trip to London and had saved up all my pocket money to the tune of 100 quid to spend in the Chinatown Eastern Heroes shop. I had seen the video magazines and the footage of the shop, and was so excited. I got to the door and the bloody shop was being renovated! One of the most crushing disappointments of my life.

Anyway, I really appreciated the work those guys did, especially Toby Russell and Rick Baker. Both seemed very genuine and enthusiastic. Anyone know whats happened to Rick Baker? Obviously Toby Russell is still active in distribution etc.

I used to love getting the Eastern Heroes catalogue through the post, and carefully selecting which VHS to buy with me pocket money. I've still got all of them, relics of a bygone age.

I remember going to the Eastern Heroes shop near chinatown and Once Upon A Time In China 2 was playing on laserdisc. A small crowd started to come in to watch and Rick Baker immediately switched it off which I found funny! Another time I've seen John Brennon there. I met and spoke to them much later after the shop closed. Rick at the time I met him said he was planning on releasing Warriors 2 on the HKL label. John I met at a film fair and he sold me some dvds at a good price.
