I have heard about a TV series by Sammo Hung Kam Bo which is apparently a joint production between Mainland China and Hong Kong. Apparently it is based on a historical period in the Ming Dynasty of China (16th century) where Shaolin monks did battle with Japanese pirates.
Has anyone got any news on this series? If so, is it to be found in Mandarin only or also with Cantonese dubbing?

You have a choice of Cantonese or Mandarin soundtracks. It runs 34 episodes.
I haven't watched any of it yet. I'm working on another series now....but it does look tasty.

Count me in!!
Nothing wrong with more Sammo Hung!!
If this is the series I'm thinking of, Yuen Biao joined the cast in the second season.

samo is doubled heavily in this series he hardly does any of the action, better of watching the the legend of shaolin temple 2 series with yuen biao and beardy which has over 2 hours of fighting and its all good.

rdenn- I'm not familiar with these series. Is The Legend of Shaolin Temple an alternate title for Shaolin Warriors?
And is The Legend of Shaolin Temple 2 the follow up series to Shaolin Warriors, or is there another series called The Legend of Shaolin Temple?
Also, do you have these shows with English subs?
Shame about Sammo being doubled so much.

no subs im afraid but i just compile the fights and watch them lol.
Shaolin Warriors have English subtitles. Look at YesAsia.
I wish Tai Seng would release the legend of shaolin temple 2 with English subtitles soon. Only a China version without these subtitles exist.

MediaCorp's new drama to show rarely seen Shaolin martial arts
11 June 2008 1720 hrs (SST) 0920 hrs (GMT)
SHANGHAI: For the first time, the Shaolin Temple in China's Henan Province is directly involved in the production of a drama series for television.
The series will showcase rarely seen Shaolin martial arts, and making all this happen are MediaCorp Studios and Beijing Yi Bo Production.
Set in the Ming Dynasty, "Shaolin Warriors" tells the story of how Shaolin monks and the military collaborate to defend China against the invading Japanese pirates.
Chang Long Jong, deputy CEO of the TV cluster of MediaCorp, said the fictitious drama series has historical elements weaved into the storyline. "It's more than just a drama, it has many elements in the Shaolin history, the spirit of the Shaolin warriors, and all this being captured in an engaging and captivating story in 'Shaolin Warriors'."
It is also the first time that the Shaolin Temple is directly involved in content production.
The Shaolin Temple abbot is the executive producer, and his team of 120 Shaolin monks act and choreograph the fighting scenes - showing moves which have rarely been seen on TV.
Actor Christopher Lee said: "To get a role and act in a drama series that has some attachment to historical events is very interesting, and at the same time challenging."
"Shaolin Warriors" also sees a very strong cast from China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Fresh from her success in the epic movie "The Curse of the Golden Flower," Chinese actress Li Man plays a Japanese princess in the drama series.
It is also her first time working with a Singapore cast.
"Singaporean artistes are very passionate about what they do and very hardworking. And be it while we were acting or not, it was very easy to get along with them," she said.
MediaCorp Studios owns the sole overseas distribution rights to "Shaolin Warriors". - CNA/ac

Yeah that would suck mightily. I don't think they do an English dub on any of these shows, at least not the full versions. There should be an option for really big subs.
thanks for the concern, but it didn't just happen. i'd have to sit near the tv to read the subs and it'd take away from watching the action due to the focus it'd take me to read the subs
Don't mean to drag up an older thread. This is turning out to be a good series. It's the first Chinese series I've seen and it's kept me interested thus far. I'm about half way through the set.
Anymore opinions on this one? I'd like to pick it up. How does it compare to wing chun & other recent series?
The focus is more on training the monks for battle, and the relationships between the monks and other characters. The action is good, but there seems to be a lot of doubling. It's worth the money if you can find it cheap enough.
