View Full Version : Chin Hung Kuei or Chih-Hung Kwei?

I noticed in DVDAF that many titles are listed as being directed by Chin Hung Kuei (mostly IVL titles), while IMDB lists the main spelling of his name as Chih-Hung Kwei. Does anyone have any of these titles, and how are they spelled on the DVD cover, or in the movie itself?

There is also a listing in DVDAF for Kuei Chih Hung, and another for Chih Hung Kuei, while there are only two as Chih-Hung Kwei.

The Gold Connection even has Siu Kwai as the director, but again, IMDB shows this as Chih-Hung Kwei.

IMDB also has these alternate names: Kuei Chih-hung | Zhihong Gui | Gwai Chi Hung | Chi Hung Kwei

My question is this, what should the correct spelling be, so that these films could be uniform in DVDAF? Also, is there anyone who is up to the task of changing these, especially if they own a good percentage of the R3 titles that show Chin Hung Kuei as the director - that is, if that name is the one that should be changed...

Edit: Are most (or ALL) of his films on DVD part of the Shaw Brothers collection? Should this be moved to the SB forum?

Mandarin (old school): Kuei Chih-Hung
Mandarin (pinyin): Gui Zhi-Hong
Cantonese: Kwai Chi-Hung

Siu Kwai is a nickname (many cast and crew in HK have them).

Both DVDAF and IMDB list (given name) (surname) as in Michael Bay. I presume Kwei (or variations thereof) is this director's surname, I'm not sure how DVDAF handles Asian directors at the moment, but do you think that all of the titles should be listed under one name?

For that matter, should The Gold Connection (R2) be changed from the nickname to his true name?

I don't own ANY of his titles at the moment, although there are several in my Shaw Brothers wishlist. I don't even know how his name is spelled on the Region 1 Image SB DVDs, much less on the Region 3 IVL discs...
