Wow, what a sad show. Its like a car wreck, I just kept watching: Apache vs Gadiator. Seems like a parody show that would be on the Simpsons as a gag.

They set up a lab and have "experts" demonstrate the fighting technique then run a computer simulation 1000 times to see who wins. Lots of typical reality show dialouge that would make anyone cringe. One guy asked the Apache archer which of the arrows was his favorite, "which ever one goes through your heart" was his response. Another Apache beats on a dummy with a tomahawk then nonchalantly strolls by the Gladiator expert as he says "dead gladiator."

Found this list of upcoming shows:
Pirate vs. Knight, Taliban vs. IRA, Yakuza vs. Mafia, Viking vs. Samurai, Green Beret vs. Spetznaz, Maori vs. Shaolin Monks, William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu and Ninja vs. Spartan.

The scientific facts and demonstrations are interesting. Have to agree with you Inframan, the dialogue is annoying. Stick to integrity of the skills and mentality of the fighters and leave the corny comments out.

Don't see this show going beyond the episodes already planned.

So far I've seen the 1st two episodes with the Apache/Gladiator and Viking/Samurai matches. Both episodes confirm what a lot of martial arts know: physical skill combined with mental skill beats brute force any day.

I agree with both you guys but I'am TiVo-ing this series! I do like how they use the Weapons on the Dummies and stuff that was wild!

I basically watch it for laughs, although I do like seeing the weapons being used on non-moving 'life like' torsos. I'm not really sure how real those are, they claim they're made up of material that mimics human flesh and bone exactly, but it looks all like giant JELLO to me.

They must have gotten the idea for this show from all the geeks on various forums who start threads about stuff like "Who Would Win In A Fight: Bruce Lee Vs Jet Li" or "Terry Tsurugy Vs Wong Fei Hung". :)

But we should remember this is Spike TV, not PBS, so they're goal is to entertain, not educate, even if they are pretending to do the latter. The match-ups are just laughable, and even some of the conclusions were ultra-retarded, like Katana not being as good as a Vikings axe?!!! LOL! And that strange Japanese club weapon, which I've never seen before and I watched many samurai films and films about Japanese martial arts, being pitted against a Viking's shield? That Japanese weapon from what I've read was rarely used, and when it was, it was mainly used for taking out horse legs (if you could get close enough - I think the Naginata would have been more practical). Like I said, the show is stupid low IQ brain candy.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this match up listed, maybe because it would be too politically incorrect: An Nazi SS Commando vs an IDF soldier. ;)

I caught this yesterday. I agree with what's been wrote. Interesting concept and very Mythbusters like. I don't like the trash talking between the real life exponents of the fighting style they are covering. BUT again it is Spike so they are trying to generate ratings and make it different.

That being said I'm interested in seeing the Spartan vs. Ninja. Shouldn't the ninja be able to kill without being scene?? I wonder what weapons they will showcase.

Also the scenes of the fights at the end are generally well done and pretty graphic for TV.

The trash talking is so annying, sounds scripted, probably is.

An Nazi SS Commando vs an IDF soldier

Might as well, they're doing Taiban vs IRA. What's that gonna be a test of carbombs?

It all reminds me of Gavin, the little kid character in Kids in the Hall who once asked "Who would win a fight between a dog and a monkey?"

Spartan beats ninja!

It was a strategical error, the computer measures the attacks of each weapon. Black eggs and throwing stars would mess up the opponent but the computer calculates weapon vs weapon and no one died from a little hot sauce in the eyes.

Pirate vs Knight is next, the car crash continues...

Yeah the ninja one was BS!!! The ninja wouldnt be going to fight a 1v1 battle especially during the friggin daytime!!!!!!!

Pirate vs Knight should be interesting, but I cant see anything getting through a knights armor......but Im sure they will find a way to make everything dumb.

The stupidity of this show is unfathomable. I agree, the Ninja would not be fighting in a battle against soldiers. And they certainly wouldn't do it wearing black in the day time! LOL! Maybe they would have worn forest-coloured camouflage, like in Shogun's Ninja! :)

And how come the Ninja weren't allowed to use explosives? That definitely would have given them a huge advantage over the spartans.

Stupid show. Pirates Vs Knights. It all depends on where the fight takes place. If they fight on a boat, the pirates just have to use a battering ram to knock the knights overboard into the water. They'll sink like stones to the bottom of the ocean. If it's on land, then the Pirates are toast, unless they're allowed to use cannons.

Yeah I was disappointed in the Ninja vs. Spartan episode last night. And I agree with you Guys on all points. Once the Ninja had him blinded it was a no brainer Slice & Dice enough said. And not to take anything away from the Spartan those were some bad Ass MOFO's!

I was watching that one and the cable went out. I guess I'll have to make fun of it later.

Doesn't this show remind anyone of that Animal Planet show where they had the tiger fighting the lion? OR that Adult swim joke where they asked people who would win: a flying shark or a flying crocodile?

Either way, this show is stupid and utterly pointless. For one thing, these are just classes, nothing to do with the warrior who would be in that class. Sure, you can say a ninja would lose against a spartan but who's the ninja? Is he the best ninja that existed or is he just some run of the mill guy who you saw in every 80's action film? The same can be asked about the spartan too, is he king Leonidas himself or just one of those 300 who got lost getting towards the hot gates?

Also, with all the money they put into figuring out who would win in some dream match into something a little more worth while?

i like the shaka zulu vs, william wallace episode. good matchup. i never knew that zulu warfare (16th century) had stick fighting very similar to escrima.

when they detail the fighting methods and weapons, is the best part of the show for me.

the simulations could use a couple of versions, though

not gonna lie.....with all these new "reality concept fighting" programs, this one i like the least. however, that being said, it is not without its charms.

cmon guys. like we haven't had childhood fantasies where ninjas and pirates and dinosaurs and what not fight against eachother. i like the dramatizations. but sometimes who they choose to represent the warrior just does not fit the bill for me

i still have a problem with a spartan getting 2 eyes full of crushed glass and chilly pepper oil in his eyes and still won the battle. i'm pretty sure that there was nobody walking around with a jug of water or milk to pour into his eyes. i've touched some peppers while cooking and accidentally touched my eye and it burned for 2 days. unless these guys trained in iron eyes i don't know.

I thought about that too but I think its the way the show works, the total the number of kills from each weapon. the more kills = more deadly. Therefore the pepper or glass is considered a non-lethal attack by the computer.
