I think it's Donnie Yen's best acting.

Haven't seen the whole series yet but the action was crap, too much undercranking and laughable Bruce Lee imitations.

If you want the best acting from Donnie, watch Ip Man.

Yeah I haven't seen Ip Man so i might check it out at some point i think the action is a pit 2 fast but u get uses to the speed sometimes i know it was to hide the fact that people r non-Martial Artist like Eddy Ko playing Fok Yuen-Gaap.

I have heard about this series but I have trouble getting it in its proper bi-lingual format. The versions that are being sold of this are Mandarin only versions without subtitles in Chinatown in Sydney. Does anyone have the bi-lingual versions of this series, where Donnie does speak Cantonese?

Where did you see this in Sydney's Chinatown? Was it legitimate?

eddie never had any formal training? so he is kinda like a beardy in a sense?
man he coulda fooled me. i usually like movies when he is in them, whether he be the villain or the good guy. duel to the death is probably my favorite role of his

as for the fist of fury tv series.....good god is that awful. i really tried to like it, since i paid full price when tai seng first released it. i have since sold it for 2 dollars.

Eddie Ko is a monkey boxing exponent, and a damn fine screen fighter, so there is no way that they were undercranking for his sake! Donnie just liked undercranking in the 90's!

I like Eddie Ko a lot too. And JJ, speaking of Beardy, how about their fight at the end of THUNDERING MANTIS?!

Like you, I also really wanted to like FIST OF FURY, but just can't! I really dig Donnie, he's a big Bruce Lee fan, the series has a great cast... So it should have rocked. But no. The ridiculous undercranking kills it for me. I also bought this when it was released, but have held onto my copy. Every few years I think "It can't be that bad" and try it again! XD

On the audio commentary Donnie said that because of the limited amount of time allotted to film the action scenes, they used heavy undercranking to hide the inadequate choreography. But I think they ruined a good thing. Okay, speed it up a bit, but not into Warner Brothers cartoon land! I watched some of the fighting in a slower speed and it looks just fine. It's really a shame that all that talent was all just for a big waste of time.

Watched the first part of the tai seng four dvd set last night. The undercranking was funny as hell, I expected the keystone cops to show up and chase them. Still enjoyed it in a cheese-filled, knowing kinda way.

Damn. I didn't listen to the entire commentary, so I didn't hear that. :)

Donnie has really high expectations of anyone he's working with. I've heard him complain about, and criticize a lot of people he's worked with or choreographed. You have to admire his desire to make everything top notch. But I seriously, cannot admire the over-undercranking used here. It demolished the fights for me. :S

It's common for Chinese names to be spelled different ways in English. On some of the Dragon Dynasty DVDs they'll spell a name one way in the film's subtitles, then a different way in the same disc's interviews when the character is mentioned. It's like Wong Fei-hung and Huang Fay-hung. Same name, different English spellings.
