From the Eastern Eye newsletter (though I think they've got their facts mixed up. Fearless wasn't set in Foshan), good to see that it's getting an Aussie release.
"IP MAN WINS AWARDS
We're happy to see that this martial arts tour de force won big recently at the Hong Kong Film Awards, scooping up the big prize for Best Film and also taking out the award for Best Action Choreography, by the legendary Sammo Hung.
The movie IP MAN chronicles the early years of the grandmaster who started Wing Chun kung fu. His most famous student was Bruce Lee who studied under him from the age of 13. The pic is set in Foshan, the birthplace of many forms of kung fu, and the same town Jet Li’s FEARLESS was set; also being the birthplace of the legendary Wong Fei Hung who’s been played by countless actors, including Jackie Chan in the DRUNKEN MASTER movies. Going by the movie, Ip Man certainly gets into a lot of fights, so there is lots to like for martial arts fans!"
Keep your eyes peeled for the Eastern Eye release of this on DVD in August. We’ve got some exclusive extras content on board too, thanks to our friends at www.wslwingchun.com!
