Ive thought about this for a while now, but dont yall agree that the Jedi Knights are straight influenced by Shaolin Monks? They study at the temple, they have to be a young age to enlist, they go through hard training, use body and mind, weapons, and they have the same type of morals (protecting, no violence, no love/marrying)...

It is, Lucas said so himself, that and samurai lore, mixed with westerns style and ww2 politics, dogfights, uniforms etc!

Star Wars was directly influenced by a movie called The Hidden Fortress by Kurosawa that has a Samurai rescue a princess. A must see classic starring Toshiro Mifune.
The Jedi are more like Samurai, before Lucas came up with the light saber his original idea was to have them carrying Katanas, though I'm sure KF and Wuxia were also influnces.

i would think more Shaolin monks tho...the combat samurai use is a lot different, the Jedi's always had long duels and crazy acrobatics....

lol Well back in the day, jedi's stood still, striked, and then backed up, similar to a samuria. But nowadays, jedis do a backflip and destroy the whole freakin empire lol

Watch Return of the One Armed Swordsman and tell me David Chiang doesn't look like Luke fucking Skywalker at the end! Of course Chang Cheh was influenced by the old Samurai films himself.

Always thought of Jedis to be patterned off of samurais. You can see the similarities of the moves of the Jedi with the samurai. On the other hand, the Jedi robes are more similar to the Shaolin robes as opposed to Kimonos.
