This is a biographical film of Yip man, known as founder or first master of Kungfu.

The film focuses on events surrounding Ip that took place in the city of Foshan between the 1930s to 1940s during the Second Sino-Japanese War. ...as much as i love this film, and respect Ip Man...he is not the founder of kung fu or the first master...he was the first Ving Tsun master to teach bulks of students, but the masters of kung fu and even wing chun go way back before him man...

Really enjoyed this film...Wing Chun (Ving Tsun) is such an amazing art. Donnie Yen was pretty good imo. I would recommend this film to all martial art lovers.

No doubt, Ip Man was a really great martial arts movie. I wish this would get a theatrical release in U.S. theaters... probably very little chance of that happening.

One my favorite Donnie Yen movies for sure and I like a lot of his films. I can't wait for the sequel but the first one's going to be a tough act to follow.

Just saw this and I thought they didn't need to exaggerate history that much to make the movie interesting. As a totally fictional action movie I think it's fun but they should have toned it down a bit. I think the second part will actually be much better if they find a very good actor to play the young bruce lee.

The best thing about Donnie Yen is he always looks physically in shape like he can kick some ass. I noticed all real martial artists (including MMA fighters) tend to have thick forearms and fists that look like giant hams and Donnie Yen definitely has those.

Ip Man is a continuation of a genre that relies on made-up history. Audiences doesn't want to watch their idols in movies where they have lots of dialogue and no action.

Donnie does every bit of physical training whenever he prepares before a new movie; from MA (learning new styles, sparring) to crosstraining.

I was also surprised this movie got made for only $5 million U.S. there's NO WAY you could make something coming even close to the quality of Ip Man in the U.S. with that budget.
