I heard that director John Hughes just passed away. He was the guy who directed some of the more memorable teen flicks of the 80s like Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller. He also directed a couple of great John Candy flicks, Planes Trains, and Uncle Buck. For some reason, he quite the directing business after making Curly Sue in the early 90s. I've never heard of any explanation why he suddenly left Hollywood to live somewhere in the Mid West.
RIP JH

He had a great mind. Sorry to see him go. He wrote and/or directed a lot of my favorite movies. I also wonder why he quit directing after Curly Sue, but IMO that’s the worst movie he directed . Weird that after Curly Sue he went on to produce and write nothing but crappy movies (except for Beethoven part 1, I still like that movie). He just lost the touch I guess. It’s not like his ideas were outdated, those 80’s movies he did would still be good if they were made today.

Man, this sucks. JH not only directed some classic 80 flix but he penned a ton more: the Vacation flix, Home Alone, Mr. Mom, etc...
One of my faves from the 80s and overall. And a heart attack at that. Ugh...! This really hits home for me.
I just got put on hi-blood pressure meds yesterday as my pressure was through the roof and my Triglycerides were @ 600.
RIP John....

Geez Teako- be careful man! I told you that a six-pack of beer and a steak off the grill is not the meal you should be having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week! Seriously though, glad to hear that you got some meds before anything terrible happened.
Yeah John Hughes and his work in film was HUGE for me, especially throughout my teen years and early 20's. Strangely, a few nights ago we watched UNCLE BUCK ("Is it the hat? This hat angers some people."), and a few weeks ago we watched PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES- still a riot. And just recently my son saw 16 CANDLES for the first time and became a JH fan.
Wow, the poor guy left us at a really young age. Thanks for all of those great movies! I hope you're on the "Holiday Road" brother.

That's sad! own all his 80's flicks. RIP.
I just caught the Breakfast Club on tv the other week, I just figured after the 80's he went out of style, I had no idea he wrote the vacation movies to.
I remember a skit on Not Necessarily the News on Hughs were he was trying to hang out with all these teenagers, they thought he was lame and started calling him names and he was writing it all down for his movies, haha good stuff.

RIP
"See, all these movies take place in a small town called Shermer, in Illinois, where all the honies are top-shelf, but all the dudes are whiny pussies - except for Judd Nelson, he was f*ckin' harsh - but best of all, there was no one dealin', man; then, it hits me: we could live like phat rats if we were the blunt connection in Shermer, Illinois. So we collected some money we were owed, and we caught a bus. You know what the f*ck we found out when we got there? There is no Shermer in Illinois. Movies are f*ckin' bullshit."

The Breakfast Club is (alongside Dazed and Confused) the greatest teen movie as far as I'm concerned. Also respect for the likes of Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, and Some Kind of Wonderful. Ferris Bueller too, even though Broderick is an annoying tit.

Also respect to Home Alone, my favorite movie for at least 2 years when I was little.

Very sad news.
Hughes made some genuine classics and arguably his influence on cinema is perhaps more evident now than at any other time with film-makers like Judd Apatow.
I saw The Breakfast Club again only recently and it could have been made yesterday, so timeless are the themes on display.
Here's to you, Mr Hughes.
