dammit! Why! and why change the name!! i mean, i love this film, but you can already find it at any store you go to, including blockbuster!!!!

No, that's not HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS. It's a newer film that I'm not that familiar with. And thank God! I thought HoFD had it's moments, but they are literally trying to give these away at my local Best Buy! It seems like they always have 15-20 copies, and they're always marked down at really low prices.

This movie bored the hell out of me. I don't really remember much about it other than it was tough to sit all the way through it. I watched it because it has Chin Siu Ho, but I don't even think he fights. I was pissed.

It might help if you change the thread title....

It's just another big army movie with Andy Lau playing the part of a strategist, bit like Takashi Kaneshiro in did in Red Cliff. I was bored by the whole thing and the ending was crap, a waste of resources by DD.

Have to say I agree this film was a disappointment, it had its moments but given the budget and epic look of the sets I was expecting much more, it does feel quite slow and boring and has a real let down ending, not bad but would definately rather see some other titles released.

Interestingly this movie came out before all the other 'war movies' like Red Cliff, Warlords, Three Kingdoms and Empress and Warriors but is probably the worst one.

I thought it was pretty good...

In concur. I haven't seen Three Kingdom as a whole (remember being bored by the first 5-10 minutes though) but Empress was a big waste of time, considering the talents (and the untalented).

What do you guys think has been the best of the recent 'war movies'??

I'm stuck between Warlords and Red Cliff

i did really like it and was riveted, yeah there was next to no martial arts in it but plenty of opportunities to go down that alley, in regards to the ending i felt a strong longing for a happy one, but yeah this is not Hollywood and life is tough so instead of having them run, fading at the horizon to the backdrop of a sunset, i prefer a realistic ending and at war there are only losers.
i still believe there was a valuable lesson to be leartn from as opposed to all MA spectacles that only offer a short escapism from the problems of this world. MOzi was an idealist and ready to die for that philosophy, the movie also reflects how kings were puppeteered by their advisers and striving for ultimate power eliminated those who were friends, allies etc.by throwing them into prison or beheading them.
it shed light on warfare in a very straight forwad unfancy way which is more faithful to waht actually happens during war tactics and games, and was void of cheesy moment where one feels embarassed about the love interest development. Andy Lau was also less superhero and always seemd vulnerable and human, the possibility of injury or death was always looming over him, as opposed to some movies were the lead actor is superhuman and invincible like, which takes away all the suspense in my eyes.
music was a shortcoming, which became more apparent when I listened to the closing credits and was like damn this is a good song, which makes me think maybe it was rather strength than weakness, using themes subtly and not in your face melodies that tell you what to feel.Big orchestrain minor oh now i have to be sad...
one thing that stood out, a bit out of topic, was the slaves voive, it sounded so unchinesy and had such a deep bass to it, he should become a voice actor id recognise him amongst millions:)

dont take offence guys its just another opinion:)
