Hi All

OK, so just seen GI Joe - loved it, want to see it again.

Is it perfect? Nope, but it's a LOT of fun and I was wondering what you guys thought of it, especially as most of you are from the US and I know GI Joe has always been a huge brand over there.

Also, how about dream cast for the (hopefully to be made) sequels?

I'll start - Tony Jaa as Quick Kick!!

From the sounds of all the reviews, it should be renamed G.I. Joke.

I'm staying away from these crappy high budget CGI movies this year. I'm sticking to Indie and smaller budget films this summer. So far I've watched Moon and Soul Power. I hope to check out Flame & Citron this weekend.

According to some reviews it's pretty violent, so that'll be right up my alley. It's probably going to be the movie QT wished he had made when Inglorius Basterds, or whatever it's called, is released.

They messed up the story line in so many differnt ways, they even destroyed snake eyes! I hated that movie, first dragonball, then street fighter, and now hollywood makes ever fan movie gay. I hated transformers and I hated this. Let's not hope they do a crossover between the two, though theres the comics for that already.

Animated would be the way to go but it'll never generate as much $$$ as live action.......money talks and so forth

Damn good film.I saw it for what it is,pure action on a high level.
Summers pull it off backstorys, martial arts, destruction & quickly setting up the next film without hiding it in sub-plots.
Fraking Damn god job.
Yeah I know fans are upset about the Snake Eyes Vs Stormshadow fight.
I bet you he will be back in GI joe 2,Death is not forever.
Especially in this series ninjas are die hards & always will find a way to return.
Overall it is very entertaining.

Not a huge fan of the comic or animation.Where I lived when it was on,they never aired the entire series. They would show maybe 12 & repeat them.
I read somewhere if you where in the East Coast Gi Joe was never shown complete in the order the episode are suppose to play.

LOVED IT i was not expecting award winning performances I went in with no expectations and I came out completely entertained. I wet for one reason, that was to see Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow . This is my ish from when I was a kid. The one problem I had was Zartan. Wasn't he from the Everglades from what I remember that's where he is from. and he had a twin brother and sister and the drove these choppers that skimmed the top of the water like those boat that they use in the Everglades. The action was over the top and so was there weaponry right down to the color of there blasts. I will see it again. For all you who haven't see it go in not expecting anything then you might enjoy it.

There were some iffy CGI moments to be truthful, but by and large the film looked great.

Humor - There's very little humor in it all, a few moments here and there but nothing awful.

Stupid parts - well, that's tricky as the story is gloriously daft at times but, I think, works as it's pure Joe!!

Took the words right out of my mouth! The only way I could've enjoyed their time onscreen more is if they were wearing IFD Ninja Headbands!

Great movie. I thought it would be stupid as well, but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Of course it's getting trashed by critics (who I never listen to anyway), and by some people who have a knee jerk reaction to anything Hollywood- not saying it's anyone here though. But people have to make up their own mind whether they want to see it or not. It's not a masterpiece, but it is good entertainment.

I am curious to see it just to check out Lee Byun Hun in his first Hollywood role...he is an excellent actor and in my opinion is in 2 of the best movies from the last few years, 'A Bittersweet Life' & 'The Good, The Bad, & The Weird'...can anyone let me know how much screen time he actually has, or if he's just been given another throw away Asian type cast part?

He is one of the main characters, and he's a bastard in it to. awesome.

I posted on this earlier today in the General Cult Cinmea thread. I didn't see this one.

So I'll echo my thoughts. I thought it was a great mindless summer popcorn movie. Brought out the inner G.I. Joe in me for sure. Sure it wasn't the greatest movie but I had a lot of fun watching it and that's all that matters to me.

I agree with what people wrote about Zartan I thought his character could have been changed to match the original more.

Surprisingly my wife wants to see it as well so I will gladly go a second time and see it with her.

Okay, as a guy that used to wage major wars of plastic mayhem in my youth- a huge G.I. JOE fan- I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. It was nostalgic, had some truly exciting action, bigger than life heroes, nasty villians, underwater bases, hi-tech weaponry, ninjas, chases, hand to hand combat, very sexy ladies, all the good stuff you'd expect from a Joe's film. Sure, it was hyper loud, popcorn silliness. But I love popcorn! So... :xd:

My criticisms: as usual in Hollywood, the martial arts battles were severely hindered by too many edits and shots that were framed too close. This was a shame, because from what I could see, Ray Park and the very cool Lee Byun Hun were doing some oustanding stuff. Shame the filmmakers weren't willing to let us see this clearly. Also, I hated the mouth they added to Snake Eyes mask. Who's stupid idea was that?! Some of the CGI stuff looked a little too cartoony.

My favorite stuff: the fight between the young Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow is one of the best Hollywood film fights in a long time! Both of these young actors impressed the Hell out of me. Fantastic beatdown. They changed their backstory, but it still worked fine for me. Scarlett vs the Baroness was hot and tough- and these actresses looked GOOD. And please... can I get one of those accelerator suits? Right away.

So, VERY entertaining in a mindless, rollercoaster ride kind of way. Great to see in the theater on a big screen.

of course you'll never know until you see it. to that point you have nothing to compare it to unlike Transformers 2 which you will always compare it to the first one. I agree with Kung Fu Bob on everything he said. this is just a fun ass movie. period......good times.

I would guess- based on your statement- that you would not enjoy this either.

Glad some people are enjoying the ride. Hey we're all different. Some people like a nice ride gondola style. Some preffer a Batmobile. Movies are the same way.

That's a shame. I was hoping "GI Joe" would perhaps lessen the dumb comedic moments and substitute them for more fun action. That enticed me.
I will probably watch it and I'm going in with an open mind and the pretense that I'll have some fun.

You know, in that regard- there's not dumb comedy. So if that was your main dislike for TRANSFORMERS 2, then don'tworry- you won't see any Joes humping anybody's leg in this movie! :xd:

Just got back from seeing GI Joe. Couldn't agree with Bob more. Don't expect an academy award winning experience going into this film. This is just pure loud, over the top action, mellow-dramatic super-macho acting, and like Bob stated so eloquently--silly popcorn action!

"Duke" is a really bad actor. I mean laughable bad. The story was somewhat predictable. I knew on the first transporting of the bombs, they would get their asses kicked. I knew when the cobras attacked the Joe's, they would get them back, and I knew when the Joe's attacked the cobras...well you get the idea.

Agree with Bob again--for a Hollywood production, there were some excellent fights, especially between Ray Park (Darth Maul, BTW) and the super cool Lee Byun Hun. I wish they would just stand back, keep the camera still and let them go at it. It could have been so much better, but still a cut way above for Hollywood. The fight between the ladies was also very good. Both got their shots in even though in ended in a draw (it's not like they're going to kill off one of the main characters in the middle of the movie).

By far, IMHO, the most enjoyable and awesomely loud scene was the Paris scene with the accelerator suits! That was just AWESOME! The Joe's were flying through buildings and trains, cars were flying everywhere, things were blowing up, missiles flying, the hot red-head chasing the baddies on a motorcycle....just superb special FX!

Overall, I give it a B. They left it wide open for a sequal, if not the beginning of a franchise. Look forward to the next one.

They remade Team America: World Police without realizing it was supposed to be a comedy.

That said, I liked it. Joseph Gordon Levitt (plays The Doctor) said something to the effect that it made his old television series, 3rd Rock from the Sun look like Cassavetes, which is both funny and true.
