My list of 10 movies that I think deserve a Celestial style glass remaster in widescreen would have to be..
#1. Rebellious Reign – Shapes galore with a ballistic end fight!
#2. Snake In The Monkeys Shadow – It will be a fine fine day when a remastered version of this finally sees the light of day.
#3. Bloody Treasury Fight – Tan Tao Liang classic!! There has to be a wide version of this somewhere!
#4. Strife For Mastery – Man what I would give for a wide remaster of this! From what ive heard through many collectors is that a widescreen version of this classic doesn’t exist! I just hope that’s not the case but after trying to hunt one down for a very long time.. im starting to think it may be true.
#5. Heroes of Shaolin (AKA Hero of the Wild) – Wicked wicked flik!! Only downside I thought was the music. Def needs a remaster!
#6. Choi Lee Fat Kung Fu – Man how I would love to see a glorious remaster of this classic! Big respect to Toby for putting out a nice widescreen print. Now all we need is remastered version where we can see the actual true colours.
#7. The Victim – One of the best end fights ever!!
#8. Mystery Of Chess Boxing – Ive already seen a glass widescreen original language version of this on the big screen. So I know the print exists. Now all we need is Toby to put it out on dvd.
#9. The Challenger – Glad to know this one is finally on the horizon!
#10. The Loot – Same as above!

Shaolin Plot has loooooong been promised by HKL.
As far back as 98/99 I think.
However still no sign of it.. im hoping this year is the year I finally get to watch this.. as ive been holding off buying it waiting for the HKL release.
I saw a clip of this yeeears ago in the now legendary Flashlegs Shop in Clapham when Flashlegs Pete played me the final clip where Casanova Wong turns up and tears up the screen!!

Here's what I know. If I said yes, that means they are being worked on right now or they're done. Maybe mean I know the print is being thought of. No, there's little chance in the next year or so. Please note, this STILL doesn't mean they'll be out this year.

Secret Of The Shaolin Poles-Yes
Ferocious Monk Of Shaolin-Yes
City of Darkness-yes
Shaolin Plot-Yes
Five Element Ninja (Chinese Super Ninjas)-yes

Gerd Ma Lui-coming, but it will be full screen
Gerd Ma Lui 3-ditto
Shaolin Vs. Lama-Toby is supposedly doing this. He's got the print at least.
Shaolin & Wutang-Maybe
The Green Dragon Inn-Maybe
2 On The Road-Maybe
Heroes of Shaolin (AKA Hero of the Wild)-Maybe
Fatal Flying Guillotines (uncut)-Maybe
Blazing Temple, The-Maybe
5 Fighters from Shaolin-Maybe

Tarantino????
Linn1
03-19-2007, 01:56 PM
correct. The copy he has is the only one I know of that's uncut. It has extra footage, including longer fights, and at least one more full fight scene. He showed it at one of his film fest a year or so ago. A friend who saw it was blown away by the fact that it was uncut.
Chinatown Kid
03-19-2007, 01:58 PM
So the chances of Chinatown Kid being released remastered and uncut looks good huh Linn?, that info gives me a reason to cheer!!! :D Know anything about Crash releasing Dynamo remastered as well?
Shaolin Dog Paw

if Tarantino was a true fan, why would he hoard the uncut version and not give it to the fans?
It just seems confusing, he doesnt really need the money but would still make a decent profit from releasing the uncut version. Maybe he likes having a gem in his collection that no one else has?

I just don't think he's even thought about it really.

Thanks for the info Linn. I'm ecstatic to see SECRET OF THE SHAOLIN POLES in widescreen, finally! Any new release has to be better than the crappy blurry fullscreen version available.
lets hope that tarantino doesn,t hoard any english dub shaw gems. anyway 10 movies i would like to see remastered are --DEEP THRUST--BROKEN OATH-- REBELLIOUS REIGN--SHANHAI KILLERS--BEACH OF THE WAR GODS--DELIGHTFUL FOREST--DUEL OF THE IRON FIST--NEW ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN--LIFE COMBAT--SACRED KNIVES OF VENGEANCE--of course all uncut with the english dubbing. in fact i want all the english dub SHAWS remastered.

I remember reading that the crowd went wild after they saw Tarantino's uncut Snake in the Monkey's Shadow. And while I thought the movie was enjoyable, I didn't think it was that good. I assumed his version just had the extra monkey vs snake scene, but if it had longer fights AND an extra fight, than it makes more sense if the crowd went crazy. It's probably a better movie altogether.
My top 10 List (didn't include stuff slated to be released by Joy Sales):
1. Five Fighters from Shaolin (I see this listed as a "maybe". Here's hoping..)
2. Fists and Guts
3. Tiger over Wall
4. Fistful of Talons
5. Call me Dragon
6. Kung Fu Supermen
7. The Lama Avenger
8. Iron Dragon Strikes Back
9. Shaolin Temple Strikes Back
10. Dynamite Trio

Aaaah..
Mission Kiss & Kill - How could I forget that one.
Linn told me quite a while back that a possible remastered widescreen release of this was on the horizon.. any update on this Linn??
By the way.. when will those darn Eastern Star releases finally see the light of day!! If I remember correctly the first titles have been ready to be pressed for quite a while now.

Something good is coming. But I'd just assume not talk about it until there's sometime concrete to talk about.

how did tarantino get his hands on the only uncut copy? oh well...
This has to be the origin of that "Tarantino hired a private investigator" rumor I brought up in another thread.
Come to think of it, is he using the same print for those film festivals or did he make a "safety version"? I'd hate to think that a rare movie print is getting beat up due to numerous showings.

I would hope all Cheng Pei Pei films get remastering if they haven't already yet...
Iron Boat
03-21-2007, 03:57 PM
1. Invincible Monkey Fist
2. Ninja in the Dragon's Den
3. Young Vagrant

6. Super Power (Super Dragon)
vengeanceofhumanlanterns

Iron Monkey (1977)
I can'y believe I forgot that one! That flick is one of the earliest to turn me on to martial arts cinema. One of my favorite kung fu flicks. Now that ya mention it I think the US version of Seven Blows Of The Dragon should be remastered as well.
Chinatown Kid
03-21-2007, 07:00 PM
Yakuza I see that The Lama Avenger, Call Me Dragon, and The Iron Dragon Strikes Back was on your list, I would love to see these released in w/s and remastered as well because they are some of my favorites in the Kung Fu genre! ;)
And I want to see Dynamo remastered dammit, come on Crash!!!!! :evil
Yakuza954

I'm surprised Ninja in the Dragon's Den is getting votes. The HKL version out now is good enough, and all you need is an all-region dvd player to play it.
Chinatown Kid
03-21-2007, 11:32 PM
Yeah I'm quite happy with my HKL's version of Ninja in the Dragon's Den. I remember George Tan put this film out under the title Knight and Warrior in his dreaded martial arts 50 pack. The pic quality was so bad that anyone that had seen HKL's version would want to strangle him! :lol
DragonMa55
03-22-2007, 06:47 AM
1. A Touch of Zen
2. The Victim
3. The Tournament
4. Queen Boxer
5. Enter the fat dragon
6. A Girl called Tigress
I know the thread said ten but that's all I can think of.

Hey C-Town Kid- what 50-pack do you speak of? Were there any good movies on it besides Ninja in Dragon's Den?
And I agree, that HKL version is remastered very nice.

Green Jade Statuette
Awesome film...better than Hot, the Cool and the Vicious
Chinatown Kid
03-23-2007, 09:55 PM
I'm sorry morgoth, it was actually Martial Arts 10 Pack and not 50. The titles along with Knight and Warrior in the pack where Showdown at the Cotton Mill, Tiger Over Wall, Ninja and Dragon, Hunt for Ninja, Ninja Challenge, Black Belt Fury, Burger Cop aka Don't Give a Damn, Deaf Mute Heroine and Shaolin Lady which is an aka for Prince of the Sun starring Cynthia Rothrock. I definately recommend you avoid this 10 pack though because the pic quality on nearly all of them are horrible. That damn George Tan! >:
morgoth
03-23-2007, 10:02 PM
Oh OK, I did actually get that 10-pack once. I was very angry to say the least.
