What the title says. Let's see if we can agree on the single most mental of all of them.
Go.

Beardy in Thundering Mantis or Lo Lieh in Human Lanterns!

Beardy did lose it spectacularly in TM, but up till they messed that kid up he was generally a chirpy chappy. Best complete mental breakdown maybe?
Yuen Shun yee Dreadnaught - ain't seen that in a while, but could be onto something...
Lo Lieh in Lanterns - yep, pretty fucking barking.
Who's the most batshit of them all??

Hard to top Lo Lieh! Masked serial killer who digs skin lanterns! Sure Carter Wong is a little bonkers in Born Invincible, and James Nam is one angry bastard in Little Superman, but that's pretty far from strapping on a ghoul mask and start shaving peoples hides!

Lung Fei in One Armed Boxer has to up there. Also Chen Hung Lieh in Come Drink WIth Me and Hwang Jang Lee and his sidekick in Shaolin Blood MIssion. And I have to mention that guy who fights Adam Cheng at the start of The Sword. He actually scared me a bit.

Perhaps the evil dude from Burning Paradise!? Or the evil crazy siamese twins in Bride with the White Hair!?
David Chiang in Death Duel?

So far the top 2 I see in this thread are Lo Lieh in Human Lanterns and Yuen Shun Yi in Dreadnaught (though Beardy is close, and I haven’t seen Burning Paradise or Death Duel. David Chiang as a psycho? Really?). If I had to choose between Lo Lieh and Yuen Shun Yi, I go with Yi. Lo Lieh is just an evil dude. Yuen Shun Yi is a complete psycho and can‘t hold his shit together for a single second.
I'd have to go with Yuen Shun Yee's 'White Tiger' as well.

Hey Asmo, just wondering, have you seen Forbidden City Cop?

I say this all TOO often, but Chen Sing is probably one of my favorite bad guys, and his performance in Deadly Strike as a coccaine addicted villain is my favorite of his. Downright nasty! Dude goes bonkers
on a side note (a side note i keep repeating in various threads) Deadly Strike is WELL worth seeking out. Not a Bruceploitation film, although it stars Ho Chung Tao. Lung Fei, as well as alot of other notable side players from the Shaw studios are in this. It's great campy fun in the whole Seven Samurai/Dirty Dozen vein....

Wasn't Yuen Shun Yee a complete mentalist in the Drunkard movies as well? Seems he was good at that sort of thing. *goes off to rewatch Dreadnaught*.

No. Why do you ask?

Yeah all 3, Miracle Fighters and Shaolin and Taoism Drunkard. He plays a character in Drunken Tai Chi that’s similar to the one in Dreadnaught. The scene where he makes his son a rocking horse is one of his best psycho moments.
No. Why do you ask?
If you like Stephen Chow movies at all, and you liked Yuen Shun Yi in Dreadnaught, then you have to see Forbidden City Cop. I don't want to give anything away, trust me on this one. .

Thanks for the recommendation. I've actually been meaning to check out some more of Chow's films, Given what you've said, I might have to put this one first on my list to see.

It's one of his best. The only ones I'd rate ahead of it are Shaolin Soccer, Love on Delivery and Fight Back to School 1 and 2. PM me if you want. I go off topic too easily

Casanova Wong in The Master Strikes is another candidate!
Lee Hoi Sang from Last Hurrah for Chivalry, the dude was killing his own guys!
Toshiro Mifune goes pretty nuts in Throne of Blood also.
Yang Wu Liang

Yeah, I'd agree with that geezer from Dreadnaught but I'll also nominate Kam Kong at the end of Jade Dagger Ninja.
Drunken Monk

Jackie Chan goes pretty nutty at the end of both "Young Master" and "Drunken Master 2."
I think Beardy in "Thundering Mantis" takes it though.

jackie in fearless hyena at the end....shit was crazy
i dunno why but billy chow's character in high risk makes me laugh and was a loon. he was crazy about fighting the jackie chan clone. shi-kwan yen was damn crazy in the swordsman 2 and bri lin was one of the most weird ever i kept talkin to the tv like jet don't even kiss her it's a dude-she-he-thing. the guy in white in azumi freaked me out too, but that one really don't count i wouldn't think. maybe

I went back to add BURNING PARADISE, but you beat me to it. Agree with the twins too.

Morgoth, you need to see BP. This cat rules over a deadly trap filled stone prison/fortress filled with spikes and fire cauldrons and he uses a paint brush to launch deadly, body-piercing drops of ink using quigong energy! I may be biased as he is an "artistic psycho", but I'd put him in the top 5 for sure!

True! He was totally apeshit.
My list so far:
White Tiger -DREADNAUGHT
Evil ruler- BURNING PARADISE
Beardy- THUNDERING MANTIS
Poison Man- NEW LEGEND OF SHAOLIN
Flying Dragon- THE BLADE
Lo Lieh- HUMAN LANTERNS
Twins- BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR
Devil Man- WOLF DEVIL WOMAN
Head Eunich- SECRET SERVICE OF THE IMPERIAL COURT
Drunken Monk

Anthony Wong's character in "Heroic Trio" was pretty bonkers. I mean, he ate birds.
Also, Yuen Biao in "Dragons Forever," while mild mannered, was also bananas.

Wu Jing (assassin) - SPL

Goro Kuman (Toyoda Yaguma) - HAPKIDO
Hwang Jang Lee (Silver Fox) - SECRET RIVALS
Lo Lieh (Pai Mei) - EXECUTIONERS FROM SHAOLIN

For pure evil I don't think it gets much better than Norman Chu and his sidekick played by Eddy Ko in The Sword. I just rewatched that movie recently. I swear it gets better every time I watch it.

Lo Lieh steals the show in the finale of Cavalier.
I'm in agreement with TibetanWhiteCrane. Casanova Wong in Master Strikes, making no sense and kicking everything in sight is always hilarious. For the new wave, I always thought John Salvitti's bit in In the Line of Duty IV is great, not to mention Billy Blanks in Invincible. Any foreign fighter in an 80's action movie is guaranteed to have at least a little crazy going on.

After watching Bastard Swordsman part 1 and 2, I have to go with Alex Man as Dugu Wu Di. His confidence is at the highest possible level, and his constant evil laughter makes you think that he must be putting on a show. But nobody is his match. Not even the bastard swordsman himself can defeat him.
There’s a couple guys I think that can contend with Dugu Wu Di as the ultimate badass, like Wu Sung in Delightful Forest, but nobody that can match him, and certainly nobody that can surpass him.

Jung Yuen in "Operation Scorpio." His hair, his purple suit and his calmness make him the quintessential king of badassery.

I think this is a good idea for a thread. There's a lot of badass mofos in kung fu cinema, but when I read the thread title I immediately pictured Hwang in "Invincible Armour".

Clubfoot was pretty cool in OUATIC, wasn't he!? Been a long time ago since I watched pt 3.
Sammo was total badass in SPL.
I also love it when the 'good guy' goes goes beyond mercy, like Jet Li in the opening scene in Fist of Legend, Donnie Yen in Ip Man in the very small scene where the japanese are at his house, or Tony Jaa in TYG when he's in the thai mansion to ask where his elephant is (I think it's the first fight in the movie...).

As I once heard shouted in a screening of "Snake Deadly Act" when Chan Wai-man only got a small cheer when he appeared:
"Those who know, know".
