I've got a Phillips DVP5960 too, and it's been mostly dependable. Only had difficulties with two discs out of hundreds. If you've got the money to spend an Oppo would be the way to go.

The Phillips needs a remote hack that is easily found. The Oppo should be good to go as is.

I have an Oppo Digitial 981H which, IMO, is an outstanding machine. It upconverts to 1080p, although my set only goes to 1080i, but it still makes my standard DVDs look incredible. It also is region free and properly converts PAL to NTSC. This is extremely important when buying PAL DVDs. You need to have a machine that does that conversion properly. It also plays VCDs and DVD-Rs very well. I had to program the machine to region free at set-up, but that was very easy and I haven't had to do anything since. The menus are very easy to use and owner's manual is well written and easy to understand. I've had the machine for about year/half and have had no problems with it. If you want one the 981H, I think its out of production, but google it and see if any retailers are still carrying it. You should also be able to find one on ebay. HKFlix.com is an authortized Oppo retailer and they still have a lower scale model. Any Oppo that you buy will be an excellent machine, IMO. Home Theater HiFi has consistently rated these machines very high in their benchmark tests, too. Let us know what you get! :smile:

I own the Momitsu BDP-899, bought it when it first hit the shelves. Im very happy with this player since it can play any region coded disk including Blu Ray. I would recommend this player to anyone! :smile:

Can't comment on the brand, but it looks like it has everything you would need to watch other region movies. It also has a free HDMI cable, and its pretty cheap....go for it...but mabey do a little more research on the brand(reviews, ratings, etc)

i researched but no reviews anywhere yet! i think it just got released like a month ago, so ima go ahead and try her out...should come with a warrenty and all too...hope it works!

IMO, I would be very leary of a no-name brand DVD player. Here's some Oppo 981H's for sale at an incredible prices! I paid $229 new for mine. Please consider these:

I have the Momitsu BDP-899 as well - plays just about everything and the region-free Blu-Ray is great.

got it in the mail today!!works wonderfully! popd in some Restless Sword to see the difference, and maaaan it looks alot better! The upconversion to HD shows easily! Deff. reccomend, plays my region 2 dvd perfect!
