This is a martial arts movie forum. So I wanted to know if any member of this forum had the opportunity to meet a Martial arts movie star in person?
Myself, I was fortunate to meet Gordon Liu and Sammo Hung.

Not technically a martial arts movie star but I met Simon Yam, very cool very down to earth guy, no ego at all and seemed happy to meet a fan.
Also met Ray Park briefly, seemed okay, and Silvio Simac who seemed like he was a bit too full of himself but otherwise was cool.
Always wondered if in Hong Kong it's easy to meet famous people or not?

Cool! Sammo was what you would expect, very humble and happy to meet fans who appreciate his work. As for Gordon Liu, man the guy is cool as ice! A class act and a person who appreciate every fan he could meet.

I have met Ivy Ling Po & her husband Chin Han 5 times, Lily Li twice, Essie Lin Chia twice, Charlie Chin Hsiang-lin once and Lily Ho once. Although they are not bona fide kungfu stars, they fight in some movies so I thought I should list them.

Not quite, but I have met Van Williams.
A friend of mine in HK goes to college with the son of Ti Lung.
I met Donnie Yen in the late 90's when he hosted a free showing of one of his movies in Boston---there were only about 20 people there. I got to ask him a couple questions, and he was a really cool guy.
Also around that time Sammo Hung and his wife Joyce Godenzi appeared at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston when they had a retrospective of Sammo's work, and I believe it was the showing of Pedicab Driver where Sammo and his wife were there. I waited in line afterwords and got their autographs---didn't really have time to say much other than how much I appreciated his work, but he and his wife were quite pleasant and friendly.
I also went to a similar retrospective at the MFA a couple years earlier and saw Chow Yun Fat when he hosted a showing of "Peace Hotel". I waited in line to get his autograph afterwards, but there were SO many people in line---he signed stuff and talked to fans for about an hour, I think, but then he had to leave----so I didn't get to meet him. He did come out and apologize to everyone that was waiting, saying that he had to leave, and I was left with a positive impression of him.
I saw Ray Park speak at a sci-fi convention 7 or 8 years ago, I think, but I didn't meet him.

Cool! Gerard Butler...were you in 300? Off the top of my head I can't think of any other action pics he did. What's Richard Norton like off-screen?

I had lunch with Robin Shou back in 2003.
Lesser know, but my path crosses Dr. Craig Reid's now and then, still, too. He's a great conversationalist--absolutely brilliant, extremely interesting and a great Scotsman accent ;)

Norton was very cool.Met him on a tv series produced by Fred Weintraub, same man that produced ENTER THE DRAGON. The show was "The new adventures of Robin Hood",and Norton was the guest villain.I was awed and a little starstruck at first. He shared techniques with me and got to watch him work out w\ his fave weapons,a pair of specially made aluminum sai. They were lighter so he could be blazing fast with them. I almost dislocated my own wrists trying to imitate what he did in "Magic Crystal" with a standard heavy pair.I didn't feel so bad after he let me in on that little secret. Yeah ,I got to be part of the stunt team for "300".
I don't think Butler has done many action flics, I remember seeing him in Timeline, but I don't think He had any fights."Gamer" is coming out soon and it looks to be chock-full.

I love Dr. Reid's article's in Kung Fu. How old is He? Judging by the info, He's been around since the 70's. Did he ever play villains in taiwanese films?

I once won a screenfighting-training with Ron Smoorenburg (Who Am I!?), along with a bunch of other people.
I really liked that experience, and Ron was very nice. It was just basic info on what makes a fight looks cool on camera, some simple techniques and how to make it look cool etc.
TBH, I was just happy to actually be doing some kind of practice again, as I had just broken my ankle 3 times that summer so it was still in tape healing when we had that training. I could bring friends along as well, so I brought my kid-neighbour (who was an extremely talented fighter btw, but he didn't take part) and a chinese friend from my kung fu school, who did participate and was my fight-buddy.
It went pretty well btw. Mostly because me and that friend already know martial arts and we also trust eachother and ourselfs, so we could really 'chase' eachother at full speed so it looked pretty 'close'
(we would just throw our punches with the intention to actually HIT, instead of missing barely, cause we knew the other would get out of the way in time, and if the other wouldn't get out of the way in time, we both have the control to quickly adjust right before impact...),
So that was really fun to do :)
Apart from that, I once went with chinese neighbours to a friendly soccermatch of HK famous people who came to Holland, and among others, Beardy and Alan Tam (with gay haircoloring) were there. Beardy (without beard btw) got hit in the nuts, so the crowd went 'ooooh', and he turned around and struck a macho-an pose, as to say his kung fu was so good it didn't bother him as all :D Very funny :)
Ow, and this summer I was in Hong Kong and when me and my girlfriend were at Causeway Bay, we went to the mall on Times Square, and surprisingly inside was a gathering of the press: Donnie Yen was pimping some new Nokia mobile phone on stage.
I didn't really stand around watching that though. Seemd kinda sad that you have to pimp stuff when you're a celebrity.
Ow, and as far as real fighters go, I saw Remy Bonjasky (K1) at a friend's funeral. Sad occasion, but very respectful of him to show up. Obviously didn't talk to him nor had any intention to...

I have only met Gordon Liu, if an autograph session counts as a meeting! :) And Laurence Fishburne was a customer of mine when I worked retail. And there was some guy who was in Tiger Claw who I also dealt with in a retail setting. I asked him about Cynthia Rothrock, but he wasn't so talkative about that, just about him being in the film. :)
Apparently there are a quite a few screen legends living in southern ontario, but I have yet to bump into them! :)

I met Sammo Hung, Wilson Yip, Wu Jing when the showed SPL in the Toronto Film Festival. The guy who really introduced me to kung fu movies had me stand at the side where they would all enter so I met them, I was like a shaking little girl.

Dude, I was there too! Sammo was awesome to meet. The other two I only said Hi to, and they nodded politely. But meeting Sammo was a dream come true. How lucky are we to have seen that premiere, huh? I had just run across town on foot from the SEVEN SWORDS screening. Did you catch that too?

Went to a Enter the Dragon screening with Jim Kelley, he was a really nice, down to earth guy. He answered a lot of questions about the film and of course Bruce Lee. He did a second show hosting Black Belt Jones.
Gordon Liu was at the same theater for a Kill Bill premier but it was to expensive and I'm ashamed to say I hadn't seen much of his work at that point, so I missed that one.

I couldn't make it to that one I had full intentions but I didn't make it. I got Sammo to sign Prodical Son I was so hyped. I was on cloud 9 the whole night. I was feeling the question answer period.
