I have heard the UK and US versions are sometimes different for rarescope. Which one do you have? I will be getting this movie as soon as I can to let you know if I had a problem, for the Us version.

Hrmm anyone buy the UK ones? Are they better then the US versions? And are there differant releases from Rarescope UK that haven't been released for the US?

they are the same titles in the US and UK. The UK releases come out sooner though.

I remember someone saying that the rarescope release of Along Comes a Tiger was different. Maybe they will post something, but they must have been wrong.

I will be buying Love & Sword for Chen Chun. Does anyone know if his role is a big one?
I think that General Stone is only released by Rarescope in th e UK.

He was talking about the menu screen music.

On the DVD cover of Love & Sword, the large figure in white......isn't that Chen Chun and not Roc Tien?

You guys are getting this film and Elimination Pursuit long before the UK does

Hey Ivy- I haven't seen Love and sword, but that is Roc Tien Peng on the cover of it.
And I think you are the one that said that Pearl sings the songs in Elimination Pursuit. She is great in the movie but if that her singing, she has a very beautiful voice. Awesome soundtrack during the whole movie too.

Read your review of Elimination Pursuit at Amazon. Love & Sword is not as important a movie for you?
morgoth
02-26-2007, 06:03 AM
I have not had the chance to see Love and Sword. I heard on here someone said it is better than Elimination. I still have to see Love and Sword and Duel at the Supreme Gate.
And I am extremely mad at amazon because I can't edit my review and the title doesn't look right cause I made a typo. Glad to see you liked it though. People don't really give many helpful votes on kung fu movies so I am guessing that is you.

Hey Ivy Ling Po, I think Love and Sword is a gret movie and is well worth picking up.

He was talking about the menu screen music.
And I still don't know. Toby said he didn't do it and Cliff said he had no idea. So the mystery deepens!

Hi Morgoth
That was me voting in favour of your review as it is a good and helpful one.
Regarding Love & Sword, there is an image of a child on the Taiwanese DVD cover that turned me off the movie. Such a character can be cloying and annoying.

Thank you!
I will check out Love and Sword within the next month or 2 and let you know if the child ruins it.:lol

Just watched this flick... pure class, a fine Gu Long adaptation - better than most of Chor Yuan's I thought. Benefited from some wonderful locations and cinematography. Some great imagery in there, fine lighting (even if the print doesn't accentuate it to the fullest, it still comes across very nicely) and they really work those cameras; a lot of real nice tracking shots going on. A familiar, but very well used choral and orchestral score added much to the atmosphere.
Quite a sombre film, with a fine twist in the tail... I lost the thread a little in the middle (chiefly because I was a little tired when I stuck it on last night and it gets a little fantastical at one point), but it's not too complex and kept me engrossed throughout. Benefited from some fine performances - the characters were intriguing and quite 3-dimensional.
So far as the kid goes, I thought he was very good actually - played it very well, and used finely, didn't find him cloying at all - in fact if anything, and I'll avoid saying too much for fear of spoilers, his character was used very nicely - integral, and gave much to ponder in light of the film's themes... the nature of chivalry and the swordsman's life as seen through naive eyes.
I'd say the only let down was the choreo - not bad, but nothing special, however all the other elements in play along with it kept it ticking along nicely and heightened it now and again.
A wonderful film, more than worthy of anyone's time, genre fan or not I'd say... I'll definitely be giving it another spin in the near future.
A nice surprise, that I shouldn't have sat on for so long thinking it would just be passable, it definitely surpassed that.

so did anybody check the eng dub for out of sync audio?
yes i just got this movie. the movie itself is not bad--BUT the english dub is way out of sync--almost unbearable. because its so lousy i,ll only be watching this movie once. its so bad it reminds me of some of those redsun movies where they put the english dub over the celestial print but for some reason can,t line it up right. also the voice actors are not the usual old time crew that did most of the dubbing back then--they seem to be lacking in emotion--sounds at some points like thier just reading it--not acting it out. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT-- this was my first rarescope and i,ll have to rethink any future purchases.

If I purchase this DVD not for the English dub, are the subtitles readable?
Peringaten, thanks for clarifying that the kid was not annoying in the film.
I have received my Face Behind The Mask DVD and the quality is not good. But I am glad to have this movie in the correct aspect ratio.
I have postponed buying Rebellious Reign on Vengeance DVD simply because Rarescope may release it in the original language and the correct aspect ratio. Does anyone think this will happen anytime soon?

Considering Fortune Star owns the rights to this film, I don't think they will.

Fresh out of the mailbox, I just got Elimination Pursuit and Love and Sword. Yeah, I see the dub on LaS is off, but the subs are fine (on both, but burned in). My 15 days of impatience has ended. Damn the mail is slow! Yesterday the mailman started putting mail in the boxes in my cluster then threw it in reverse, out of sight behind a dumpster as I stood watching, almost like he was trying to hide from me. He then emerged with a small package, only to bring it to my neighbor, and proceeded to speed away before I could talk to him.
On EP it says "from the team who brought you 'Clutch of Power'. Is this another Roc Tien movie of the same sort, and if so is it available?

Vengeance released Clutch of Power mate, its an OK film with a big cast Chen Sing, Beardy, Yen Shi Kwan, Philip Ko, Meng Fei, Doris Lung and the Champ Wang. No Tien Peng

That is one hell of a cast. Does Yen Shi Kwan have any good action?

Love and sword was very good, and is defintely helped otu by a great ending. the final fight that lasted like 10 minutes was AWESOME!!!!! You can tell that the crew for this movie put some serious time into this fight. I would guess it took a few days to shoot for thi one scene. The action is very good all around.
Ivy Ling Po-the kid is annoying at times, but he is not in it very much. By the last freeze frame shot of the movie, I was glad he was in it. My review should be posted within a few days. It is going to be hard not to give anythign away writing a review for this.

I thought the kid was quite good and not in the slightest bit annoying, I agree about the end fight, it raised the film up a notch with some sweet swordplay.
Regards Yen Shi Kwan in Clutch of Power, my memory is a bit sketchy (I say that about most films I have seen, a few months after seeing them I really struggle to remember details!) but I think he has a small good guy role, he gets to have a bit of a tear up but he is not one of the main characters

YEah, I was probably a bit harsh. He is just a bit annoying, but I did like his character. The movie though, man that was great. I had to watch it again last night. 8/10, though I am stuck between an 8 and 9.

I forgot to talk about the 2 audio tracks. The English track is completely wasted as said before. The MAndarin is fine but you can hear the loop. The good music blocks it out most of the time and the sound is not much of a problem, except during the scenes that are supposed to be totally silent. I am easy to please so I had no problem, but it would have been nice to watch the movie with the English dub.

Ok, I will put it up now. But do me a favor and leave a comment and tell me what you think of it. It would maek me feel a little better because some POS keeps giving all my reviews negative votes and I have to keep deleting them and resubmitting them so they don't all say 0/4. But, ever since this person has been stalking me, my reviewer rank has skyrocketed:D
And nobody else gets to comment on my reviews! They are all bad, I know:p

Just watched this tonight. I don't have much more to add that hasn't already been said. I didn't mind the kid's part; wasn't really annoying or anything. By the way, while watching this I was wondering if Tien Peng does the acrobatics in this, or I suppose, in any of his movies. Was he doubled? He doesn't really appear to be all that limber. This crossed my mind during the end fight with Chin, where he does some flips and stuff.
I thought the ending was great. Definitely was not expecting it. Great film all around, quite a bit more coherent than Elimination Pursiut, not sure if I'd say I liked it better though. Typical Tien Peng awesomness... *spoiler editted out*

There is one part in the movie i really love. Roc Tien goes into the teahouse where the witch of light and darkness seems to be staying and the waiter asks him if he would like fried human liver or snakehead. Roc Tien just looks at him like WTF?
