While there are a lot of films I've seen nowadays that I realize I've seen before on tv years ago, there is pretty much only one film that I can actually remember watching on tv back in the days of Saturday afternoon kung fu theater, but I have never seen it since and have no idea what it might be--hopefully, someone here will know. I remember very little, but here goes:
The story involved two rival groups of guys who hung out on the town's main street, where most of the action seemed to take place. One group of guys hung out at one end of the street, and the other loitered at the other end, possibly near a fountain. The story seemed to revolve mostly around this rivalry--I think one group would do something to the other group, then they would retaliate. I remember the guys looked pretty young, like older teenagers rather than full-grown men. I also remember that the description of the film in our local paper described the story as being about "rival clans in ancient Japan/China"--it didn't actually say "Japan/China", it said one or the other, but I'm not sure which. I had thought for many years that it said "Japan", but when I think about it now, it looked pretty much like your typical kung fu tale, so it might have actually said "China". I'm also pretty sure the action was hand-to-hand, not swordfighting, and that it looked kind of low budget, and that it mostly seemed to take place on this street. I also think it wasn't totally dramatic--not necessarily a comedy, but not too heavy either--the initial interaction between the two groups might have been stuff that was geared to embarrass them, and then got more serious. I think someone also might get hit over the head with a water jug or something, but I'm not really sure (I can kind of remember a part where one guy is standing there after having had something goofy happen to him, and he was annoyed and bawling out his friends). I saw this on tv in the late-late 70s or early 80s, and in the New York area.
Well, that's it. If you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
