Its rather odd too since I do have a film background.

Lately, I've watched several amateur clips on the web of people showing their "stuff" thinking they're making movie magic. Let me just say one thing. I'm not a martial artist though I do know a little about film. Hone your craft. Learn the art of filmmaking. Its not easy but what craft is?

Once you become well-versed with the art, then there are ways to make your kung look even more impressive. Heck, look at Neo in "The Matrix." He knows kung fu? Amazing what a little editing can do.

Film is not about a camcorder and YouTube. Its an art form. Just like the Shaolin monks, the more you understand the larger picture, the greater the martial artist you become. Same goes for film.

Now, go shoot some movies. :)

Yeah... but Keanu Reeves looked crap in the Matrix (he was a little better in Reloaded though). I've seen PLENTY of amateur stuff that I'd rather watch over the Matrix fight scenes. Plenty!

I don't really get your point but, yeah, there's a lot of crap amateur stuff on the web as well. You get a lot people who simply don't know how to shoot/edit a fight scene properly, but like I said, there are many talented amateurs on the web too.

Perhaps "The Matrix" was a poor example. Sorry. My point is not about shooting/editing a fight scene in general. Its about understanding the art of filmmaking as a whole.

Anyone can point a camera and shoot two guys banging the crap out of each other. That's not what film is about and, as you're probably aware, not what the martial arts are about either.

I appreciate the efforts of what some are trying to do on-line. I just hope they can better grasp the bigger picture and make something of substance. That's all.
