Whats up
Question... How would someone start in making a kung fu film..? I know the obvious, but I mean like technical material... Sound effects, video imagery, etc... My main question how do you make the sound effects??

For a lot of films sound effects are usually found in a library belonging to a studio. They are sometimes ripped off other films or any point of reference {could be a tv commercial} and slightly eq'd to alter the pitch to suit a particular scene. Or else they are recorded live and altered with a bit of sound design {very expensive} to create more dynamic sound ie sound that appears to move.

You could go to the trouble of using a sampler and recording your own sound fx,or sampling those from other films.

Try using cabbages they hit it with different bar thickness for fleshy sound like hits to the face and for bones they snap carets and cucumbers and mess round with the speed and pitch.

I made some 1/2 Kung fu movies and to get the fight FX i captured fignt sounds off of some old Hong Kong DVD's into my computer. It just took a while to find a fight that did not have music over the action.

Once that was done it was easy to isolate the different sounds Punches, Kicks, Blocks and the Whoosh sounds of misses.
