Hey guys,
Got word that Kane Kosugi got married last month to a 32-year old woman from Hong Kong. His agent confirmed the news and even more a good thing, the rift between Kane and his father, Sho Kosugi, has seem to have cooled off as Sho attended Kane's wedding in Hong Kong. :)

Thanks for the news Albert.

I guess I must have missed it- what was going on between Kane and his father? Can you give me some details?

Yeah I'm not a huge gossip guy......but I'm curious what the rift was as well.

Apparently Sho wanted Kane to run the family business and Kane didn't want to, he also apparently took some of his fathers employees with him.

LMAO....no, but I remember he dated a golfer for three years and the Japanese public thought they were gonna marry. Then they broke up in 2005. From what I read, Kane met his current wife in 2006 while in Hong Kong and while it is not confirmed how long they dated, it could be speculated he began dating her shortly after they met and now they are married.

gfanikf hit it on the nose as to the rift between Kane and Sho. I have an all-Japanese book that Sho Kosugi had written about his life with Kane. Sho went as far as calling Kane a "traitor and a coward" on a television show, but I am definitely happy they have reunited. Especially with Sho returning in Ninja Assassin, maybe his experience from making the film could have possibly made him realize how much it meant to Kane that he wanted to be an action star.

BTW, no details yet, but Kane is going to work on a U.S./Hong Kong/Korean action co-production. Not sure if this is the second project he is planning with Jung Doo-Hong and Ryu Seung-Wan. Their short film TIMELESS was definitely a delight to watch :)

Nice to read some good news for a change!

Two, in fact, what with Sho attending, and thereby healing the rift.

Kane is a good actor, he reminds me at times of Hiroyuki Sanada in his heyday.

It would be nice if Sho supported Kane. I don't know how much it would help but that guy needs a real break. His talents are going to waste in his physical prime on mediocre B-movies like COWEB and BLOOD HEAT.

I heard about this earlier in the month and I too am THRILLED that father and son reunited for the wedding.

My understanding about the cause of the rift is slightly different. It's true that Sho wanted Kane to be involved in helping with SKI (Sho Kosugi Institute), but it was not at the expense of abandoning his career as an actor and dream of becoming an action star. From what I understand, Sho wanted his son to do both and Kane wanted to break away on his own, and it's the way he chose to do so that led to them not speaking for years. Sho's always supported Kane's dream of becoming an action star. Not only did he put him in a number of his American films as a kid, but he helped him start his career in Japan by bringing him along for the Taiga Drama "Ryukyu no Kaze" and even giving Kane his first solo starring vehicles by directing him in the two "Za Kakuto Oh" movies. The Sho Kosugi Institute was formed in large part to help train Asians who are interested in becoming action stars, so having Kane involved while continuing his own pursuit is what Sho wanted.

Anyway, hopefully that's all water under the bridge now and with any luck father and son can share the screen again someday.

That makes sense. I've only heard the short version a couple of times.

What about Shane how is he doing career wise and how did this conflict affect him?

What about Shane how is he doing career wise and how did this conflict affect him?

From what I understand, Shane never planned on becoming an actor/action star when he grew up. He worked as a computer technician in Japan before becoming supervisor at the Nagoya branch of SKI. He has returned to the screen in recent years though, starting with a role as a member of Ken Watanabe's samurai group in "The Last Samurai". You can see him clearly a number of times in the film, most notably when Tom Cruise watches Hiroyuki Sanada lead some samurai in their Kenjutsu practice and even clearer when Sanada and Cruise square off after Cruise has improved his skills. Also part of the samurai group was actor/martial artist Takeshi Maya, an alumni of the JAC who co-starred in "Shogun's Shadow" starring Ken Ogata and Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba. In 2007, Maya wrote, directed, and produced an awesome short film called "Kage" and cast Shane as his rival in it. Shane is really impressive in it. Hope he does more stuff in the future. I'd love to see him and his brother in the "Ninja Assassin" sequel for example.

You are a "Traitor and a coward!", on TV no less.
I wonder if there was a retraction?

Yeah, even if it turned out to be a DTV prequel or sequel, I'd still check it out!

I thought Kane would have been a great lead for NINJA ASSASSIN, but alas....would love to see him in anything that would properly display his talents!!
