Default Say it ain't so

I've been in a slump for a few months as far as kung fu movies are concerned. Ever since i was a kid and until 3 months ago i have had quite the passion for KF movies. But lately it feels like i've just lost interest all together. I used to watch a KF movie every day, now its more like once a month.

I have a collection of about 1,000 KF/MA/HK/Samurai movies, i've probably watched 75% of them, some i've watched at least 4 times (I've watched Fist of the Golden Monkey 16 times). I have 10 SB movie posters hanging in my living room, chinese trinkets everywhere, i even wear a kung fu outfit on fridays...

Why is it that now i can't even put in a KF movie (one i havent seen) without falling asleep or just fast forwarding through most of it? Have i dedicated too much love, time, and effort to KF movies and now i've just gotten bored with them? Has anyone else ever felt this way? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know what you mean. Haven't been watching much lately either, but that's mainly because I've been busy. Still feel that the excitement around new kung fu flicks in the mail isn't as big as before, and I'm probably not as intrigued as I was while watching, especially when it comes to movies I've seen before. I wouldn't say I'm quite where you are yet though, but it feels a bit different, yeah.

I don't know.. maybe we just need a little break. I refuse to believe that I'm sick of kung fu movies. Scary thought considering how much we spend on them though. :)

It's called burnout, you watch so much of something you get bored and tired of it. Best to take some time off from watching anything martial arts oriented for a while, probably after some time you will get to missing it and come back with renewed interest.

There was a period about 4 months ago where I stopped watching flicks all together (except for what came on Kung FU HD) and even a spell period of no posting on here! I'd watched too often.

But after several months, three atleast, I heard some people talking about Bruce Lee and how he would've lost to Chuck Norris IN A MOVIE! I immediately and loudly interjected "Are you kidding me! You guys've never heard of Way of the Dragon." The conversation continued, the rest is history and now I watch a Shaw Bros., Jackie Chan, or Bruce Lee film regularly :D

Oh! Yeah, this totally isn't my only genre of films, it's my favorite, but there are hundreds of other films I love.

Yeah, take a break. Maybe do something physical, like some real martial arts or something that requires focus and exertion. After a while, it'll make you appreciate some of the skills that some of your favorite kung fu artists have. I like taking hikes myself, snowboarding or plotting to go back to Hawai'i and surf.

that's one great reason why I suddenly stopped watching kung fu movies everytime. definitely provides you with overall material that makes general Hong Kong cinema so great beside all those kung fu, which have proved it's not being the only great genre the industry has.

I've been going back to the Hammers, classic b/w horrors and old 50-60's b movies I grew up watching as a kid, I have a brain to sculpt so I'm about to watch The brain from Planet Arous and Fiend without a Face I need to get to. Samurai/KF is my favorite genre but I need a change off every once in a while. Maybe you've just had a run of shitty KF movies.

thanks guys, you're opinions are immensely helpful. I think I will take a break. I am pretty active, i go hiking, and i've been boxing for several years. So, no problem there. Maybe i'll obsess over Star Trek for a few months then come back to kung fu.
