Produced by Johnnie To, this is one of two upcoming movies (the other being Donnie Yen's The Monkey King) from director Soi Cheang (Dog Bite Dog, Accident) about a rookie cop who takes on a veteran escape driver on a death-defying final showdown on the motorway. Cast includes Shawn Yue, Anthony Wong, Guo Xiao-Dong, Gordon Lam, Barbie Hsu, Josie Ho, and Michelle Ye. Chin Kar-Lok is onboard as stunt coordinator for the action and car stunts.
Thought to be in post already, it's reportedly still filming (http://twitter.com/#!/lornatee/statu...88186373394432). No release date yet. Last edited by DiP; 08-30-2011 at 08:43 PM. |

According to Soi Cheang, the film should be ready for a January or February release.

Here is a new article which talks about the current state of local HK productions vs co-productions. Towards the end, Motorway is listed as tentatively coming out in May, which would match what I got in an email from media Asia last year telling me 2nd quarter 2012. I guess maybe the Soi Cheang interview was conducted a while back, and only posted more recently maybe? The article also has Derek Yee saying he wants to make sequels to Protege and One Nite in Mongkok, but financing for these projects are proving to be difficult to find in the current situation. |

Media Asia have created a movie page for the film. There's no trailers though. I guess post-production has completed now.

The crime/action film "Motorway" will be released in Hong Kong and mainland this summer, Mtime.com reports. Produced by Johnny To and directed by Pou-Soi Cheang, "Motorway" features talent from the mainland, HK and Taiwan, including Anthony Wong, Shawn Yue, Michelle Ye, Ka Tung Lam, Barbie Hsu and Guo Xiaodong. Shawn Yue portrays a traffic cop who chases criminals in a disguised police-car, working with his colleague portrayed by Anthony Wong. "This car-racing film will excite you," Director Pou-Soi Cheang said regarding the film. "More than that, it also includes the most classic elements of Hong Kong gangster films." Cheang revealed that more than 50 cars were used during the filming process, "We wanted to show audiences the real car-racing life," he said. Trailer and Poster for "Motorway" Released
Producers of the Hong Kong car-racing/gangster film "Motorway" held the movie's first promotional press conference in Beijing yesterday, Chinesefilms.cn report. Director Cheang Pou-Soi along with lead actors Shawn Yue and Anthony Wong made an appearance at the event. The promotional poster and an intense trailer packed with full-throttle car-racing scenes were released during the event. As a master of producing thriller movies, director Cheang Pou-Soi takes on his first car-racing film. Cheang stated that "Motorway" is a movie which utilizes few special effects, with most of the scenes being genuine. The plot of the film revolves around policemen who drive in disguised police cars in order to chase down sinister thieves. Young actor Shawn Yue plays a rookie cop while Anthony Wong portrays a soon-to-be retired elderly policeman. The film also stars Barbie Hsu from Taiwan and Li Guangjie from the mainland. The film is expected to be released on the mainland and in Hong Kong during June. http://www.chinesefilms.cn/141/2012/05/08/141s9236.htm |

Well, according to Soi Cheang the plot is a cross between racing films, traditional kung fu films as well as Hong Kong gangster films; with an overconfident and low-ranked person taking on a high-ranked and professional antagonist. All this set in the roads of Hong Kong.
