Anyone wishing to know what these people are really like, watch the brilliant Shane Meadows movie This Is England.

Yes, that's why I said that I think the BNP are racist. As kaleyboy said, they certainly aren't the answer. But when you've got polls that show 40% of the Muslims in the UK would prefer sharia law over British law, it doesn't make you a racist to say "whoah, this isn't good."

great film, however i wished they explored the subculture more. the film was mainly speaking from meadow's past experiences. the soundtrack was so so. i heard alot of the Oi! bands from the 80's didnt want a part in the film seeing as it dealt with the NF side of the skin subculture.

The BNP are racists. I have no time for racists of any colour or background. All that said... it's down to Britain's self-betrayal (by corrupt, greedy, left-wing politicians) that the BNP have been allowed to get a foothold on our politics. Problems with illegal immigrants, asylum seekers, lack of jobs, lack of housing, etc... These issues have given the BNP the fuel they require to spread their message of hate. The white working classes have suffered enormously under New Labour and the BNP is out to exploit that - successfully it seems in some cases. Cultural and religious debate has been silenced in Britain (even dare to talk about Islam and you're branded a phobe). Civil liberties have been eroded (ID cards, CCTV, spy cameras in our wheelie-bins). Violent crime is on the increase (it's literaly not safe to walk the streets in many urban areas). Britain is being turned into a country of fear and mistrust and who do you think a desperate public will turn to? Most will seek out a viable alternative like The Conservatives or UKIP - but there will be those galvanised by the BNP's message. I've heard their leader Nick Griffin speak. The worrying thing is not that he's a racist, but rather that what he says makes sense. Our politicians (national and local), councilors, and judiciary are delivering Britain into the hands of racists. And the more the left bury their heads in the sand (idiots thowing eggs and calling them racists doesn't make them go away) the worse it'll get.

Wow, very well put, Mark. I've argued almost that exact same thing on other forums. The left throws around the word "racist" so much at people who are really not---it's going to be a harsh awakening for them when they find themselves facing REAL racist Nazis. I just fear that the climate in the US is not too far behind that of the UK.

I'm a big FAN of the big names of late 70's UK punk--The Clash, the Pistols, the Slits, The Jam, Siouxsie, Joy Division, etc. I don't know all that much about the subculture per se, though.
