Japanese poster and release date for ‘Tekken’

By Mark Pollard | Published December 23, 2009

It looks like Japanese audiences will be getting the first shot at viewing the upcoming TEKKEN live-action film, starring Jon Foo. The film is heading to theaters there on March 6. Meanwhile, the Warner Bros. Japan’s official site has so far unveiled a Japanese poster.

TEKKEN (2010)

Based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, TEKKEN is a high-octane, action packed thriller written for the screen by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine) and to be directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600) with fight choreography tentatively by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff).

Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time, the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

We are introduced to this violent world through the eyes of Jin Kazama, a street fighter that enters the tournament in order to avenge the death of his mother that he blames upon Tekken’s powerful and controlling Chairman, Heihachi Mishima. He knows that the only way to get close enough to Mishima to kill him is to win the tournament. With the help of Lucas, an ageing Iron Fist Champion and fight trainer, Jin makes his way through the tournament, but in doing so, he begins to uncover his own past and inner demons as well as exposing a dark underbelly to Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity.

at least they cast a real life martial artist for a martial arts film but heres hoping the director is capable of directing fight scenes which will more than likely be the highlight of the film cos im not really expecting any kind of plot for a film of its ilk. dion lam has always been a competent action choreographer. at least this seems more promising than king of fighters which looks like a low budget film.

Tony Jaa needs to kick Jon Foo's @ss again, Jin is Japanese =.= Jon looks like someone in a halloween costume... they didn't want a asian lead or what? at least in Ninja Assassin, the leading man is asian, and that film rocked.

Jon Foo is Asian - he is Irish-Chinese who grew up in London (most likely Chinese father and Irish mother).
At least this casting is better than Goku for Dragonball Evolution (Justin Chatwin), or Kyo Kusanagi for King of Fighters (Sean Farris).
And if you look at Ninja assassin, the character Raizo is Japanese, but he is played by Rain who is Korean singer/actor, so I have no problem with this casting

Let's just hope that this movie isn't as lame as the American version of DOA. To be quite honest DOA was really just base on sexy girls and not on the actually fighting/storyline. But Japan has never fail me yet unlike American Live action. cough* Dragon Ball Z cough* DOA cough* Street Fighter - The Legend of Chun-Li cough*.

DOA is a great game... The live action sucks.

You're talking about how the movie was just showcasing girls right?

Because while to few people take it seriously, DOA is a great fighting game.
