Goku is an Asian Icon, Asian Legend & Asian Superhero. Dragon Ball is one of the most FAMOUS Japanese Manga out there.

Dragon Ball and the character named Goku is heavily influenced on Asian Culture. Goku is named after the Monkey King Sun Wukong(a Chinese Mythical Hero) and his character is also influenced by the Chinese Actor named Jackie Chan. Their GI(Uniform) is based off on the Shaolin Monks of China.

Yeah I know that Goku is an alien a Saiya-Jin. But so is Superman a Kryptonian. So if they really respect Akira Toriyama and his Dragon Ball creation, then they should have casted an Asian actor for the role.

Because casting a white boy like Chatwin is an INSULT and very INSENSITIVE to all the Asian Fans of Dragon Ball.

alrighty, i saw this piece of crap... but u know what... it wasn't as bad as the legend of chun li haha. with this film, they actually have a better screenplay. it did seem like they had a vision. the only problems are that, there is a lot of bad acting, but i dunno, some of it, worked for the film... lol yeah.

there was talk about the film being the king piccolo saga, which is not. the movie has its own completely different story. its a re-teling of the beginning of dragonball, but goku is not a kid, he's in high school... that should say enough. in the anime, goku don't do school. he eats, he fights, he saves the planet. so since its a different story, they should of added like other villains.

the film does suck, and there is so many lame little things you'll see. what's nice is that, the movie is very short, just 1 hour to 10-15 minutes, and they manage to get from point A to point B, in such a litte time, that it wasn't too boring.

the fights were as bad as the legend of chun li, and since they lack the martial arts, there is less fighting. when they do fight, its so terrible, that i would take a fight scene from charlie's angels.

the special effects.... well, they were so-so. they made the stars in the dragonballs move. the ki and all the energy blast looked alright. when geeko does go ape, it looked ok, but he's still in his outfit, and he's not as big as godzilla. they just made him look buff when he transformed. what's gay is that, he doesn't have a tail, and he doesn't look at a full moon to change. for shenglong, the eternal dragon, he's suppose to be gigantic, but with the good editing they did, they kept the dragon with very close tight shots, so you don't know how big it is. a lot of people said that the dragon looked very small, and they're pretty much right, just that, he was so zoomed in, that we don't know. something the movie did, that i don't think any hollywood film has done before, is when goku fights piccolo. they do trade blast, kinda like how you would see it in the anime. that really is a first, i never seen a hollywood film where 2 guys fighting eachother shooting fireballs constantly. maybe in big trouble in little china, but its not like they're shooting energy.

for the characters, they're really kinda more appealing than everyone in the legend of chun li. the only complaint is.. bad acting, and over acting. i mean talk about bad timing at some parts.

would i watch this film again? no. 1 view is enough. i've been watching people reviewing or ranting about this movie on youtube... and some people actually liked it. so as i was watching evolution, i wanted to see the positive. there is none really.... maybe only the idea of boy meets girl in high school and fall in love. goku and chi-chi kiss twice in the movie, where in the anime, we dont see any kissing at all. so i dunno why they didn't just turn the film into a porno, the movie might of worked that way. because chichi and bulma are too hot.... it should of been a hentai live version of dragon ball lol.

They should've casted JON FOO as SON GOKU because he is 100x much better than Justin Chatwimp. And he's a real Martial Artist too.

if i wasn't a fan i wouldn't known that goku's a alien. if you were a real fan, you would say, he's a saiyan, ...from vegeta. the first excuse is since he's not human, thats why they use a british dude, who can't even fight. anyone can play goku??? yes. Nothing wrong with comparing Hollywood with HK Cinema, because Asia has done their own live Dragonball adaptation long ago, and now a US version is gonna be out soon. Crap if HK ever decide to make a movie about G.I. Joe, like that will ever happen, it sucks, anyway they would use the right people. Unless HK do their own version, and use only Asian actors/actresses, they wouldn't call it a adaptation, it wouldn't be based on the cartoon or what ever, rather it be more like a inspiration, so it be ok to see the characters all Asians in different scenarios. Now with Drugged ball Evolution, it is based on the Anime! with some white-ish british dude playing Goku! ...The new Tekken movie, whose a fan? Who knows Jin is Japanese? Jon Foo is gonna play him. For this Dragon ball movie, I never in my life thought someone would actually start a petition to try to stop it from being made. It has gone too far, but its a big statement from the fans. So this should say something to you, if you think most fans are gonna go see it in theaters wasting real money. I ain't gonna go see it, I rather get a ticket to see Ong Bak 2, or save my money for the new Resident Evil 5, or the new Tekken 6 coming in the fall.

in the chinese adaptation of dragonball, the guy playing goku isn't a kid like this justin fella either. he's some asian actor who looks about maybe 17 years old or so.

i believe funimation came to the japanese owners with a offer. they weren't the ones selling dragonball. since they own the rights to it for some long ass time now, they can do what they want, like this live version movie.

there is no proper way of bringing this anime to life. its too extremely different and you know it! if you seen the tv series and the movies you know what i mean. the dragonball world is too weird and bizarre, and it shouldn't be brought to life or even touched, enough said. do you think seeing this white guy as goku going super saiyan, if that ever happens, would be like super awesome or super gay? how would the gold hair look? thinking about it, is just a good laugh.

Big Laef, i don't know if you come to this site often. but we martial art fans respect and support the good martial art stars, movies, eastern cinema, asian actors/actresses, etc. i've notice over the years that a lot of the fans or people here are very loyal. we know when its not a good movie, period. i would rather pay real money to go watch Ong Bak 2 in theaters than this Drag Blah. the only way i'll watch dragonball is if i download a crappy version of it on the internet, and i don't care if the quality is bad, the film looks bad enough already. even akira toriyama's new dragonball ova special is better.

But honestly, if you don't think that trailer was the precursor to possibly the GAYEST looking cinematic perversion in the history of like FOREVER, then you should seriously check to see if your testicles are still attached. It features a truly bastardized storyline, laughable performances, cookie-cutter action sequences and casting decisions that would force even the staunchest religious advocate into questioning the existence of god. I don't think anyone was holding their breath for high-art here, but this abomination looks like its pitched at a younger audience than the original anime. I will under no circumstances pay money to watch this film.

That was quite possibly the gayest thing I have ever seen. Like WTF were they thinking. Goku's a f**ckin American teenager and Piccolo looks like make up disaster from The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers set. I wasn't expecting high art here, or even the remotest amount of respect for the source material but honestly. I defy anyone else in the world to be handed one of the most revered TV licenses on the f**ckin planet and the equivalent of Iraqs war debt to fund it and make anything near the cinematic abortion that just assailed my eyes.
