Asian pop superstar and actor Jay Chou is set to star in a period action movie from the producers of KUNG FU DUNK.
Chou will re-team with DUNK director Chu Yen-ping on CI LING, a film about time-traveling lovers in Genghis Khan’s Mongolia. Chang Hong, a Taiwanese production company is producing.
CI LING is scheduled to begin shooting in March and see a Chinese New Year release in 2010.
Recently, Chou has been filming scenes for Yuen Woo-ping’s wuxia film TRUE LEGEND where he has a small role as Vincent Zhao’s martial mentor. Chou, who is not an experienced martial artist or screen fighter shares several fight sequences with martial arts film and TV veteran Vincent Zhao. Chou reportedly caused some minor injuries to Zhao’s hands during sparring where Chou performed his own stunts.
“I remembered that I had to do 30 to 40 takes before the scene is okay,” said Chou. “I feel that I still have room for improvement. I think I will gradually improve and maybe I can get the scene done within five takes.”
Zhao responded, “If one actor can fight, the other cannot fight, more coordination is needed in this case. Accidents are unavoidable, hand injuries are common.”
“Sometimes, it is really difficult to gauge the distance, Chou added. “We need to make it look like a real fight. Thus when we throw a punch, we will sometimes hit each other.”
As the number of hand injuries increased, Yuen had a stunt double step in to complete the fight sequences.
