Jet Li

International action star Jet Li will be one of several big-name Chinese celebrities to make a supportive cameo appearance in JIAN GUO DA YE (aka LOFTY AMBITIONS OF NATION BUILDING), a nationalistic period film about Chairman Mao Tse-tung and the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Li was on set April 6th for a day of shooting where he portrays a Kuomingtang naval admiral who only has three lines.

Other celebs making cameos include Andy Lau, Eva Huang, Jiang Wen, Chen Dao-ming, Sun Hong-lei, Chen Kaige, Feng Xiaogang, and Peter Chan.

Directed by Han San-ping, the film stars Tang Guo-qiang as Chairman Mao and is expected to be released this fall, in time to commemorate 60 years of communist rule in China.

Hey Mark, Jet might be trying to build up good feeling with the PRC government before he makes his long planned Tibetan Monk film.
  • Darrin, you may be right although Jet has already stated his opinion in a CNN interview that he supports mainland China's stance on keeping Tibet and claiming Taiwan. I doubt he would be putting anything intentionally controversial in his film as his personal focus has always been on unity and Buddhism.
