Veteran screenwriter and Shaolin kung fu practitioner John Fusco has been hired to pen the new live-action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES movie. An official announcement reported by Variety confirms rumors of Fusco’s involvement in the film that surfaced recently.
Fusco’s treatment is based on the original comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman and will focus on an origin story. This signals that Warner Bros. is opting for a reboot rather than a continuation of the original live-action films released by New Line.
Producers for the film include Scott Mednick (300) and Galen Walker who previously produced the 2007 animated feature TMNT.
An open casting event took place last weekend to recruit martial arts-trained stunt actors for the film.
Lead cast members and a director have yet to be announced.
Budgeted at $95 million, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is scheduled for release in 2011.
