ENTER THE DRAGON star John Saxon will be making a special appearance at the Las Vegas International Film Festival on Thursday, April 9th to discuss his acting career including working with Bruce Lee. While there he will also be joined by indie filmmaker and U.S. SEALS 2 star Michael Worth to promote their film, GOD’S EARS, a romantic drama about an autistic boxer. Both celebrities will follow this up with a similar appearance at Hawaii’s Big Island Film Festival in May where Saxon will again be a special guest.
GOD’S EARS is a co-production of SixGold Productions and Grizzly Peak Films, the company behind indie actioners GHOST ROCK and KILLING CUPID. It was completed in 2007 and has been making its way through the festival circuit where it has already collected several awards.
It’s a very different sort of film for writer, director and star Michael Worth that strays from the B-movie action conventions of his past films to embrace dramatic arthouse sensibilities closer to the likes of Billy Bob Thornton’s breakout film SLING BLADE.
Worth portrays Noah, a boxer with autism who falls in love with an exotic dancer (Margot Farley) as the two help each other overcome their life struggles. Saxon appears as Lee Robinson, the owner of a gym where Noah works as a handy man.
GOD’S EARS has not yet been released outside of the festival circuit but Saxon and Worth can be seen together in WAR WOLVES (see related trailer and article at SF Universe), a low-budget sci-fi actioner now airing on the Sci-Fi Channel.
I know some folks will wonder why I’m bothering to promote a straight drama on a martial arts film site. I weathered such criticism for reviewing Clint Eastwood’s MILLION DOLLAR BABY, but I’m a sucker for boxing dramas and I’m happy to see an action star and filmmaker like Worth branching out with what looks to be his best film to date. Also, having three family members with Autism Spectrum Disorder gives me added reason to want to see this film which seems to take on the topic of autism with a tad more realism than Prachya Pinkaew’s entertaining yet far more exaggerated action film CHOCOLATE.
