Louis Cha) wuxia novel, "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre". The insane plot compression is a direct result of this. (At least) one sequel was also intended, but didn't materialize due to poor box office results. For a much more faithful recreation of the story, see Ma Wing Shing's comic book adaption (of which at least 11 of the planned 12 volumes were published). Just search "Heaven Sword Dragon" on amazon.com.

This review really should mention that the film is actually an adaptation of a section of Jin Yong’s (a.k.a.
