Dolph Lundgren

MTV is reporting that Dolph Lundgren, star of DTV actioner COMMAND PERFORMANCE and Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming all-star actioner THE EXPENDABLES is in talks to appear in the upcoming big screen redo of CONAN. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, there is no suggestion that producers are eying Lundgren for the title role.

“I’ve talked to the producers about doing something for CONAN,” said Lundgren. He went on to state that “it’s too early” and expects to know more next year.

In other words, Lundgren may end up with a part in the film, which would be terrific. As for the lead role, industry buzz to date suggests an unknown will ultimately be cast in the role previously filled by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

CONAN is being produced by the same team responsible for COMMAND PERFORMANCE and THE EXPENDABLES, as well as a host of other upcoming actioners including Isaac Florentine’s UNDISPUTED 3 and NINJA, Jason Statham starrer THE MECHANIC, a RED SONJA redo, and RAMBO V.

Why redo Conan at all? What was wrong with the first one? So many different stories, original stories and they choose to redo a classic? Is it really that hard?
  • Because they aren't "redoing" the Millius Conan film. They're adapting the stories by Robert E. Howard, with which the 1982 Conan film had little to do.

I like the Millius/Arnold film too, but this isn't a remake.
  • He'd probaly play the dad.
