Actress and former model Milla Jovovich has carved out quite the niche for herself as the action star of the RESIDENT EVIL films. Despite getting married, having a child and branching out into other film genres, she isn’t giving up screen fighting or zombie killing anytime soon. Jovovich confirms that production will begin on RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE in September and it’s going to be in 3-D.
Series writer and producer Paul Anderson, who is married to Jovovich, is also going to direct, his first time since helming the original RESIDENT EVIL in 2002.
“It’s going to be crazy!” said Jovovich, explaining that the format will require her to change her acting style. “I don’t know much of what to expect from it, but you definitely, as an actor, have to be careful about [using your hands]. You can’t do that in 3-D, you’ll have hands in people’s faces. Definitely, I think I’ll have to adjust.”
She added, “I’m so lucky to have a franchise that’s done this well and has kept me with a steady job every few years. Most actors, you don’t know when your next job is going to come.”
In a recent interview with the Guardian.co.uk, Jovovich revealed the extent to which he helped develop her fighting character in the RESIDENT EVIL series while meeting Anderson. After taking the role she read the original script and was horrified.
“They’d brought in the Michelle Rodriguez character and given her all the kick-ass action scenes. I was already on a plane to Germany when I read it.” She got off the plane and marched straight to his hotel room. “I’m leaving tomorrow,” she announced. “This script isn’t the script I read. If you think I’m going to be in this, you’re crazy. I’m on a plane in an hour.” They spent four hours going over the script together, line by line, giving her back the scene where she runs up a wall, scissor-kicks the mutant dog, and breaks the neck of the zombie by crushing his head between her thighs. “And that was how we met,” she says, smiling.
Milla Jovovich is currently appearing in the thriller A PERFECT GETAWAY. She has two more thrillers on the way including THE FOURTH KIND and STONE with Edward Norton and Robert De Niro.
