MIYAMOTO MUSASHI: SOKEN NI HASERU YUME (2009)

We do not customarily cover anime here but this news is worth passing on for three reasons. First, there is an anime movie coming out in 2009 that depicts real-life Japanese sword master Miyamoto Musahi. Second, it was conceived of and scripted by Mamoru Oshii, the director of GHOST IN THE SHELL. Lastly, there is now a teaser trailer out that suggests fans of animated screen action are in for a real treat. To see the teaser trailer visit Anime News Network.

For anyone even remotely interested in samurai tales I recommend doing two things. Go out and buy a copy of “Musashi” by Eiji Yoshikawa from Kodansha International. It will be the fastest 970-page book you’ll ever read. Then go pick up or rent Criterion’s SAMURAI TRILOGY Box Set featuring Toshiro Mifune in three classic jidai geki as Miyamoto Musashi. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

I need to rewatch my Criterion's of the Samurai Trilogy. Because, while I enjoy the first film, the other two left me in complete disinterest. This sounds interesting. Oshii has yet to fail to keep me riveted.
