Universal Pictures has just unveiled the full trailer for THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, the third entry in producer Stephen Sommers’ MUMMY franchise that sees Asian action movie icons Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh appearing onscreen together for the first time since 1993.

Series star Brendan Fraser returns as heroic archeologist Rick O’Connell who joins his son (Luke Ford) in battling a resurrected Emperor Han (Jet Li) in an epic adventure that races from the catacombs of ancient China to the frigid climes of the Himalayas. Han originally set out to conquer the world 2000 years ago but was stopped by a sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) and now he’s back and ready to finish the job with the aid of an army of terracotta warriors 10,000 strong.

The film features a crack stunt team made up of talented performers from around the world and headed up by veterans Vic Armstrong (TOMORROW NEVER DIES), Marc Desourdy (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH), Mike Lambert (THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) and Mark Southworth (V FOR VENDETTA). Among the stunt crew is the wushu-trained Ming Liu, one of Hollywood’s top female stunt doubles who covered for Maggie Q in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3. Mike Leeder, who is well known among KFC’s forum communit, was a stunt liaison. On utility stunt duty was Jason Cavalier, star of ORDER OF ONE, one of my favorite low-budget indie flicks yet to be released.

The trailer depicts the perfect summer flick, full of brainless, over-the-top action and adventure with lots of special effects. It won’t sate the appetite of kung fu fanatics but it looks to be an enjoyable blockbuster film to cap the summer with.

Universal is rolling out THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR on August 1st, 2008. A high definition version of the trailer, additional pics and film info are available at director Rob Cohen’s excellent film blog.
