I bet u all this 3rd installment will rock more than the last 2 prequels. Jason looks really cool here after Death Race.

I like what the transporter movies stand for (you know, straight forward simple action ) but the actual films themselves from start to finish are just…okay. Not bad , not brilliant just…okay. Heres hoping T3 improves things .

I have faith in this. From the looks of it, they did more of the first film action style (The car stunts and fight scenes) and they look to have lessened the CGI madness that ruined the second film. I have a feeling this is going to redeem the series.

You know what, you really hit the nail on the head with the words “insubstantial action.” That is the defining term for action that doesn’t advance a plot or isn’t there for any reason, just TRYING to be cool. It’s one thing when it is done good or creative, because you can let it go. But generally directors who hop on the me-too action bandwagon don’t do it very good or for any reason other than cool factor.

A lot of people harp on us Kung Fu movie nerds and how chop socky a lot of it is, but the majority of the time, the action is there for a reason. Or it is tastefully done and is allowed to be.

Exiled is one of those style over substance films where action takes front row, but it is not “insubstantial.” It belongs because it defines.

I liked the first Transporter even though the only good action were the car chases and the innovative fighting, but they set a tone for the character. But the sequel just so felt insubstantial because it was forced (action and style), and the CG was terrible (you’re seriously doing a barrel roll in a car to knock off a bomb? WTF?).

I think that’s the way to describe good action vs me-too action, insubstantial. Makes me think of Fast and Furious 4. It’s like they’re not even trying.
