Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has released a new, English-language trailer for French martial arts/parkour actioner DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM. They have also set a premiere release date on VOD for January 1, 2010 with a follow-up theatrical release date on February 5.

DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM

DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM is writer-producer Luc Besson’s follow-up to DISTRICT 13 (released Stateside as DISTRICT B13) and re-teams tricking martial artist Cyril Raffaelli with parkour (free running) co-founder David Belle in another high-octane, urban actioner set in a fictional near future where a walled off urban district in France remains a dangerous no-man’s zone. The pair team up to gather evidence that a corrupt security agency chief has instigated a growing gang war before the President of France is forced to authorize a nuclear strike on select sites within the district.

Patrick Alessandrin directs while Raffaelli choreographs fight sequences and Patrick Cauderlier overseas stunt work.

I thought the first one was decent, but not great. Mainly, because when the two guy fight, it's not that interesting to see one of them run while the other attack. Also, I wasn't too impressed by the stunts they're not integrated with fighting. Again, thought it was decent, so I'll check out the second one.

Shoving parkour down our throats much? I don't think it was really necessary to put a definition of it at the beginning of the trailer. Then again, ong Bak made muay thai look like the greatest thing in the world, so maybe it's just following suit.
