The 3rd annual Films at the Gate festival gets underway tonight in Boston’s Chinatown, in a vacant lot on Hudson St. about a half block from the iconic Chinatown Gate. This free, five night long outdoor film series is sponsored by the Asian Community Development Corporation. It’s an excellent opportunity to grab some Chinese take-out from any one of the dozens of nearby restaurants and kick back under the stars while watching classic kung fu movies. Seating is limited, so get there early or bring your own chairs or blankets. For more information, check out the Films at the Gate website.

Here’s the schedule:
Wed. 9/3 MY YOUNG AUNTIE
Thurs. 9/4 POLICE STORY
Fri. 9/5 RED HEROINE
Sat. 9/6 THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN
Sun. 9/7 IRON MONKEY

The Friday screening of the 1929 silent swordplay film RED HEROINE will be accompanied by Devil Music Ensemble, playing a newly composed score. And the Sunday screening of IRON MONKEY will kick off with a martial arts demo by students of Master Bow Sim Mark, who also happens to be the mother of star Donnie Yen. All these events are free, but we welcome corporate sponsorship and individual donations which will be used to support the youth programs offered by ACDC.

In case of rain, and the weather is looking a little iffy for Saturday, the films will be screened in an auditorium at nearby Tufts Medical Center. So there’s no excuse to miss this event!
