It’s that time of year again. The seventh annual Films at the Gate, a free outdoor kung fu film festival that takes place in Boston’s Chinatown, will be held from Aug. 23 to 26 in the Greenway park next to the Gate. The weather looks promising, and the line-up is pretty choice. Opening night is the cult classic MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE starring Jimmy Wong Yu. On Sunday, IP MAN 2 will be screened after a performance of kung fu by students of Master Bow Sim Mark (that’s Donnie Yen’s mom!). To check out the full schedule, go here. And thanks to the Asian Community Development Corporation of Boston for sponsoring the event, to Pathfinder Home Entertainment and Well Go USA for assistance in setting up the program, and a big shout-out to the Wah Lum Kung Fu Athletic Association for their participation.

Coincidentally, while putting together a short article about Jimmy Wang Yu for the festival website, I discovered he has also joined the cast in the upcoming big budget 3D remake of the Shaw Brothers classic THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (1975). Produced by Peter Chan and directed by Andrew Lau, THE GUILLOTINES stars Huang Xiaoming, Ethan Juan, and Shawn Yue. Check out the teaser trailer below.
