Shing Fui-on

Prolific Hong Kong actor Shing Fui-on died on Thursday evening after a five-year battle with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a type of throat cancer that he had been diagnosed with in 2004.

His final minutes were reportedly spent with family and friends, including fellow entertainers Alan Tam, Eric Tsang and Nick Cheung.

Shing was best known as a supporting actor in over 350 Hong Kong films and 600 TV series episodes over the last 40 years. With a rugged face and an unusually tall frame, he often played villainous characters, typically gang leaders. Some of Shing’s most notable roles were in John Woo’s A BETTER TOMORROW and THE KILLER. He had one leading role in THE BLUE JEANS MONSTER, an action comedy from 1991.

One of Shing’s last roles was in Cheung Chee-keong’s British crime actioner BODYGUARD: A NEW BEGINNING.

Always liked him as the wanna be tough underground gambling boss in God of Gamblers.

His face when he loses against Chow Yun Fat is priceless, trying to say they were playing with Taiwan money to try and cover his ass.

    Good times.

Rest in peace Shing Fui On. Altough he didn't have that many leading roles he was one of the best supporting actors!

Smoking was likely the cause of it. Heavy smokers likely to have it. Heavy drawing of cigarette smokes through the nose would likely cause it. Smoking thick and strong and unfiltered cigarettles are the worse of it.
