A new martial arts sensation could emerge from director Wilson Yip’s highly anticipated IP MAN sequel, at least according to its star Donnie Yen who reprises his role as Wing Chun master Yip Man.

Of his co-star Huang Xiaoming who plays Yip Man’s student Huang Jin, Yen said that he could envision Huang becoming “the next king of kung fu.”
Huang reportedly trained extensively in Wing Chun on and off the set of IP MAN 2 in preparation for his role.
If Huang isn’t familiar to action and martial arts fans, it’s for good reason. This handsome, 32-year-old actor from mainland China has only been in a handful of TV series and feature films since 1997 and none of them save for Feng Xiaogang’s THE BANQUET have yet traveled far outside of their home territory. His last notable appearance was in the war-time thriller THE MESSAGE. He has also starred in Dante Lam’s gunplay thriller SNIPER and ROYAL TRAMP, a 2008 TV adaptation of Louis Cha’s wuxia novel ‘The Deer and the Cauldron.”
Perhaps as indication of his future prospects, Huang’s first starring role was in the family-oriented, B-list kung fu movie LEGEND OF THE DRAGON (2004), alongside Sammo Hung and his son Timmy.
Like many of his Hong Kong counterparts, Huang is also a successful recording artist.
