Have you grown tired of all the Yip/Ip Man-related film projects yet? Donnie Yen, star of IP MAN and IP MAN 2 has. He has made it clear to Chinese media that after IP MAN 2, which now has an earlier Asian release date of April 29, Yen will have nothing more to do with films pertaining to the Wing Chun master.

“This will be my final film on the subject,” said Yen. “Whenever something becomes a success, everyone would jump on the bandwagon. This is very frightening. Did you know how many IP MAN films are in production? Under such condition we would not progress. It’d only lead to over-saturation of the subject matter.”

In addition to IP MAN 2, directed by Wilson Yip, there are two other major Yip Man films coming out in 2010. One is Wong Kar-wai’s long in development biopic THE GRAND MASTER, starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Herman Yau’s THE LEGEND IS BORN: IP MAN, starring real-life Wing Chun practitioner Tu Yu-hang as a younger Yip Man.

As of last year, Taiwanese producer Yang Pei-pei (FLYING DAGGERS) has also been reportedly trying to get a 40-episode TV series on the life of Yip Man made as well.

In case your answer is no to my initial question of whether or not you’ve had enough of Yip Man – I certainly haven’t – here are two shooting diary clips from IP MAN 2. They reveal more action, including a brief glimpse of a fast-moving bout between Yen and Sammo Hung.

I really wish some of the shots in this behind-the-scenes footage end up in the movie. I’m talking about the wide angles and even the raw audio of Sammo’s kiai. The speed of Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung is impressive. This is what kung fu in the 21st century should look like. There is clearly a high degree of speed, precision, power, and intensity that exists on set, some of which can actually get lost or deemphasized by a director’s sometimes stifling vision. This is the kind of movie where the cameras should just pull back and let the screen fighters take charge.

I think his decision is a wise one. Donnie Yen has always been quite smart and I have nothing but respect for him. The speed of Yen and Hung are amazing. It must be hard going that fast and holding back.

Come to think of it, why DO movies opt for the quick and crazy editing? Are they afraid they'll lose the audience with barebones camera angles? A camera angle can still be raw and exciting – remember Tony Jaa in the Protector with that 4 minute single shot?

Did I see Samo rubbing his oiled belly against Wilson's skinny butt? Ok. Well on a more fruitful note, yes, more of the same goodness, it seems. Just needed that something..extra…Wu Jing?

i thought the headline sounded like donnie was gonna drop out of ip man 2. thank god it wasn't that. smart move from donnie, don't make a ip man 3. we know how hong kong cinema is, 1 successful film leads to the not so popular others making more movies about the same person. the chinese film industry hasn't changed huh? it's so typical of them to do that. i don't wanna see more fictional films about ip man.

the movies that become classics stay in your dvd collection. the so-call sequels and prequels are either a own/rental. the f@ggots who does a re-make of the classics, or they do their own version with not going into much depth, usually fail, and it's only to view once… like the karate kid re-make haha. jackie might be in the film, but it might not be worth owning.

Pls Donnie, just play Ip Man 3, i begun wing chun after the films you made, its so great.
U dont need to put the whole story on Ip man 3 just cut the rest into the important pieces andfinish the films,
Its not like i know what u need to learn or to manage for it.
But this Story got something epic, and epic and triologys sticks, like in Star Wars. Its not just the film itself.
Its how especially you play the role, how naturally it seems.
I dont know if its hard for you but pls finish this last film,
for your fans and for chinese Kung Fu.

Hello Donnie! I agree with Tobi Jansen, you can not leave the third film. A year ago I was passionate to Chinese culture and I started studying and practicing wing chun by a teacher who was a student of Ip Chun. My dream is to go to China and visit the places where you made the film and the time has made history. I was really impressed by your film and one thing I am sure, will also become a teacher one day and I hope to shake your hand, I'm your fan and I also ask you to do the third film for us all!
