It may be a little too early to draw comparisons to Scott Adkins (UNDISPUTED III), arguably the top martial arts star working in Hollywood at the moment, but it looks like martial arts instructor and aspiring actor Walter Garcia may have what it takes to follow in his footsteps.

Garcia is currently featured in A SPANIARD’S TALE, a new short film from writer-director Anesti Vega. The short recently premiered at the Action Film Festival on July 31st in Tampa where it won six awards including Best Film, Best Action Sequence and Best Actor for Garcia’s performance.

The film, which cost roughly $350 to make, is just over 30 minutes long and can be viewed at the official Action Film Challenge site. Garcia’s screen fighting form can be seen in two fight sequences beginning at 15:30 and again at 23:05.

A SPANIARD’S TALE is one of 14 films entered into the Action Film Challenge, a competition where filmmakers were given 30 days to complete an action movie to compete for over $1000 in cash and prizes.

In the film, Garcia plays Carlito, a family man who charters his boat out to tourists while looking for a legendary lost treasure rumored to have been buried by his ancestors. Carlito declines an offer to work for a wealthy crime boss to find the treasure and soon becomes the target of his henchmen.

From age six, Garcia built his martial arts foundation in Taekwondo and has since trained in Wah Lum kung fu, Ryu Jujitsu, Capoeria, boxing, Muay Thai, Hapkido, and MMA.

Im impressed with the first demo reel, but not the second. One thing is for sure, this guy is a lot more acrobatic than Scott Adkins. It seems this kid has the skills and talent, but the question is can he act too? I guess luck and time will tell if this kid has what it takes to become an action star.

Instead of making comparisons to other people, why not let him be the first Walter Garcia?
