THE LAST DRAGON

There are days when a news story just writes itself and today is such a day. The Associated Press reports that a plainclothes police officer shot and killed a scam artist after a chase through Times Square in New York City.

The pursuit turned deadly when the suspect pulled out a stolen Mac-10 machine pistol on the cop and fire two shots before the gun jammed. The officer returned fire, shooting and killing the suspect.

The suspect and his brother had been trying to scam tourists into buying CDs and DVDs along Broadway and 46th Street by asking their names, writing it on the merchandise and demanding payments of $10 each.

The suspect went on the run after being recognized by a police sergeant in charge of a task force that monitors aggressive panhandling.

Where the story gets weird is that the suspect had in his possession several business cards from gun dealers. According to police, written on the back of one of these cards was the statement, “I just finished watching THE LAST DRAGON. I feel sorry for a cop if he think I’m getting into his paddy wagon.”

Let that be a lesson to kung fu-loving, would-be crooks out there. You ain’t Bruce Leroy.
