Shaw Brothers’ wuxia masterpiece THE MAGIC BLADE arrives on DVD in the U.S. this week courtesy of Image Entertainment. This is arguably the greatest among director Chu Yuan’s many adaptations of Gu Long’s celebrated wuxia novels.

The Magic Blade (Image Entertainment)

The film stars Ti Lung (THE ANONYMOUS HEROES, DRUNKEN MASTER 2) as an enigmatic swordsman with a spinning blade, who puts off a duel with his rival (Lo Lieh) to team up against a power-hungry villain and search for the deadly super weapon, the Peacock Dart.

Swordplay action is choreographed by the great Tang Chia (SHAOLIN PRINCE).

It has an English dub too apparently.

Might pick it up if Image finally gets a good transfer of out their Shaws.

Image didn’t list that on their press release. Thanks for the info. I’m not sure how I feel about a dub of a Chu Yuan wuxia film, even if it’s an original. The whole genre sounds best when spoken in Mandarin in my opinion.

I really liked the Enlgish dub for this movie. It’s not a perfect sounding dub, but good enough I guess.
