Nathan Jones, the Aussie wrestling behemoth from THE PROTECTOR (aka TOM YUM GOONG) and FEARLESS, must have made a “big” impression in Thailand back in 2005. Coming to Thai theaters three years later is SOM KAM, starring Jones in a family comedy spin-off.
No real plot synopsis is required. Caucasian, muscle-bound giant mixes it up with locals in Thailand with comedic results.
In speaking with production company Sahamongkol, Twitch’s Todd Brown learned that the film was geared specifically for children, hence the exaggerated action.
Like the title “Tom Yum Goong,” “Som Kam” is also the name of a Thai food dish. In this case, Jones eats a bit too much of the spicy Thai food and turns into a red, rampaging Hulk.
SOM KAM looks like a fun flick that will hopefully find a market here in the U.S. The film opens in Thai theaters on May 29th, 2008.
